Realistic Tree Chopping
This mod makes you fell a tree the way a lumberjack does. Every blow of the axe cuts a real notch out of the trunk. When too little wood is left, the trunk snaps and the whole tree tips over, crashes to the ground and breaks up into logs, sticks and saplings.
How it works
- Swing the axe. Hold the attack button on a tree trunk with any axe. Each swing takes less than a second and cuts a wedge out of the wood, with chips flying.
- Watch the notch grow. The cut is real geometry, with bark on the outside and growth rings inside. An iron axe needs 4 or 5 blows for an oak, a wooden axe about 10. Better axes and Efficiency cut deeper.
- Choose where it falls. The tree always falls towards the deeper notch. Chop from one side only and it comes down on you. To drop it away from you, notch the far side first and then finish from the near side.
- Stand clear. The falling trunk turns on its hinge, slips off the stump and hits the ground. It hurts players and animals in its way, harder the faster it is moving.
- Collect the wood. After two seconds on the ground the tree breaks up into the same items you would get from mining every log and leaf block, with your axe's enchantments applied.
Thick trees work too: dark oak, giant jungle trees and giant spruces have a 2×2 trunk and take many more blows. The mod has been tested with oak, birch, spruce, jungle, acacia, dark oak, cherry, pale oak and mangrove.
Building with logs
- Logs that are part of a building are mined the vanilla way. Only a trunk with leaves on top counts as a tree.
- Sneak with an axe to mine a single log of a tree the vanilla way.
- A stump left in the ground is mined normally.
Options
Open the Drwal (Timber)... button in the Options screen (drwal is Polish for lumberjack). You can:
- switch tree chopping on or off;
- set how deep one blow goes;
- set how much of the trunk must be left before the tree falls;
- decide whether falling trees hurt;
- set the amount of wood chips, the ground shake and whether both hands hold the axe in first person.
Known limits
- Branches do not break off one by one. The tree falls as a whole.
- A fallen tree does not slide down a slope.
Requirements
- Minecraft 26.2 with Fabric Loader 0.19 or newer and Fabric API.
- In multiplayer, install it on the server and on every client. On a server without the mod, trees are mined the vanilla way.
- Works with Sodium and Iris, and without them.
- The screenshots are taken with a shader pack. Without one, the game looks like vanilla Minecraft.
