Realistic Animal Instincts

Fauna Needs brings realism to Minecraft: Mobs graze grass, chickens eat seeds, and predators hunt. Mobs drink only fresh water, while fish sustainably eat upper kelp layers (no thirst bar). Infinite water sources are disabled!

Description

Fauna Needs: Realistic Ecosystem

This mod completely overhauls mob behavior by introducing a realistic ecosystem where animals must actively manage their hunger and thirst to survive.

Natural Diets & Hunting

  • Grazing Herbivores: All herbivores (cows, sheep, llamas, horses, etc.) now graze directly on grass blocks to feed. Just like vanilla sheep, they turn green grass blocks into regular dirt.
  • Foraging Chickens: Chickens actively break tall grass to find and eat seeds.
  • Predators: Carnivores actively hunt and feed on herbivore mobs to satisfy their hunger.

Dynamic Thirst System

  • Fresh Water Only: Land animals must drink water to survive, but they are smart enough to avoid salty sea water. They will strictly drink from fresh natural water sources or water blocks manually placed by players.

Aquatic Ecosystem

  • Sustainable Kelp Diet: Fish do not have a thirst bar since they live in water. Instead, they manage a hunger bar by eating kelp. To prevent starvation and ensure the plant survives, fish only eat the upper parts of the plant and intentionally leave the bottom root layer intact so the kelp can regrow.

Survival Realism

  • No Infinite Water: To maintain a truly realistic survival experience, the vanilla infinite water source mechanic (e.g., standard 2x2 water pools) has been completely disabled. Water is now a finite resource!
