RealScale Terrain v1.6.0 — Geomorphology & Lithostitched Beta
Minecraft 1.21.1 | NeoForge | Java 21
This experimental release brings major improvements to terrain realism, mountain generation, cave systems, rivers, climate simulation, and world-generation configuration.
It consolidates overlapping terrain presets, deeply integrates Lithostitched, and introduces improved compatibility and performance safeguards.
Major Features
1. Consolidated Terrain Presets
Simplified world creation into four primary terrain types:
- Natural / Realism MAX — Balanced, continuous landscapes with mountains, valleys, and plains.
- Alpine / Himalayan — High-altitude mountain ranges, steep ridges, deep valleys, and snow-covered terrain.
- Canyon / Grand Canyon — Plateaus, cliffs, canyons, and erosion-inspired landforms.
- Real-World / USGS Big Sur v2 — Terrain derived from real USGS elevation measurements.
Previous world-generation IDs remain registered for compatibility with existing worlds.
2. Deep Lithostitched Integration
Expanded Lithostitched integration across several terrain-generation systems:
- Regionally adaptive terrain blending.
- Seeded Perlin noise for large-scale geological variation.
- Smooth coordinate shifting and terrain transitions.
- Improved geological layering.
- Regionally adjusted cave density.
- Optimized density calculations for tall mountain environments.
Introduced Lithostitched Deep Geology, an optional experimental feature for customized Terrain Lab worlds.
3. Improved Rivers and Mountain Flooding
Reworked high-altitude river generation:
- Improved connected river segments.
- More reliable water and ice generation in mountain river biomes.
- Natural waterfalls, mountain cascades, and localized flooding.
- Better support for frozen rivers with liquid water beneath ice.
- Gravel riverbeds and bounded terrain excavation.
- Reduced isolated water pools.
Mountain overflow is intentionally permitted to create more dynamic landscapes.
4. Enhanced Cave Generation
- Improved underground cave continuity.
- Reduced excessive hollowing of mountain interiors.
- Better integration between cave density and geological terrain.
- Improved cave-generation performance.
- Additional multi-seed cave regression testing.
5. Climate and Biome Improvements
- Altitude-dependent temperature adjustments.
- Valley and enclosed-basin warming.
- Customizable latitude-based climate patterns.
- Experimental concentric latitude systems.
- Improved cold-climate controls.
- Optional winter ecology enhancements.
6. Redesigned YACL Configuration
Improved the in-game configuration interface:
- Separate configuration profiles for Natural, Alpine, and Canyon terrain.
- Independent terrain relief, elevation, erosion, ridges, caves, rivers, and climate parameters.
- Lithostitched integration controls.
- Preserved settings when switching terrain families.
- More informative configuration descriptions.
- Compatibility with existing configuration drafts.
New-world configuration: Settings can be exported into custom world-generation datapacks using the included RealScale-Config-Exporter.pyz.
7. USGS Terrain Improvements
- Improved Big Sur v2 terrain transitions.
- Additional four-edge boundary verification.
- Better integration between measured elevation data and procedural terrain.
- Improved river connectivity within measured terrain regions.
- Expanded multi-seed and saved-chunk validation.
USGS elevation measurements are preserved rather than replaced with synthetic elevation data.
8. Additional Experimental Features
- Optional winter ecology datapacks.
- Optional increased vanilla structure density.
- Experimental Nether and End world-generation extensions.
- Expanded compatibility and world-generation testing.
Bug Fixes & Optimization
- Fixed several terrain discontinuities and interpolation artifacts.
- Improved mountain and cave density-function handling.
- Addressed high-altitude river generation failures.
- Improved frozen-river connectivity.
- Fixed several Lithostitched density-function compatibility issues.
- Reduced redundant cave-density calculations.
- Improved YACL configuration handling and export compatibility.
- Strengthened world-generation regression checks.
Testing & Validation
All 14 GitHub Actions workflows passed for this build.
Validation includes NeoForge compilation, automated Python and Java tests, dedicated-server world generation, saved Anvil chunk inspection, multiple seeds, USGS terrain boundaries, cave generation, rivers, and configuration export.
These tests do not guarantee that every possible world seed or mod combination is free from issues.
Installation
Requirements:
- Minecraft 1.21.1
- NeoForge 21.1.x (tested with 21.1.249)
- Java 21
- Lithostitched 1.6.0 or newer compatible release
- YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) 3.8.1 or newer compatible release (client)
Place the RealScale Terrain JAR and the required dependencies in the Minecraft instance's mods folder.
Create a new world and choose one of the RealScale terrain presets.
For custom Terrain Lab worlds, export the saved configuration into a datapack before creating the world.
Important Notes
This is an experimental Beta release, not a stable release.
- Back up existing worlds before updating.
- New world creation is recommended.
- Advanced terrain-generation features may increase chunk-generation time.
- Mountain floods may spread into surrounding terrain.
- Real-world elevation support currently covers a limited measured region.
- Some advanced features remain experimental.
Thank You
