Real Pet Guard
Server-side mod for Minecraft. Simple and crystal-clear rules for player/pet combat.
Works on dedicated server and singleplayer (logic runs on the server side only).
Does not touch environmental damage, mob damage and pet (im)mortality. Aimed at survival / outdoor combat, not "cosy immortal pets".

Guardrail
If you set prevent_player_attacking_pets=all, allow_crouch_bypass=owner and prevent_pets_attacking_players=no,
a random player could be bitten without any way to defend himself (hit the pet).
On load, the mod forces prevent_pets_attacking_players to yes and logs a warning.
Recommended defaults
Outdoor combat, simple
{
"prevent_player_attacking_pets": "own",
"allow_crouch_bypass": "owner",
"prevent_pets_attacking_players": "no"
}
- You do not one-shot your own dog in a fight
- Crouch + hit still lets the owner put a pet down
- Other players can kill your pets
- Pets still fight for you and retaliate
No PvP on pets, but…
{
"prevent_player_attacking_pets": "all",
"allow_crouch_bypass": "all",
"prevent_pets_attacking_players": "no"
}
Anyone can still crouch-kill a pet if needed; pets may still attack players who hurt their owner or hurt them.
