Re-Etched

An unofficial Etched fork with improved radio, boombox and album jukebox playback, SoundCloud support, and per-world radio history for 1.20.1

Re-Etched

Your music, in Minecraft.

Create custom music discs, take your music along in a boombox, fill an album jukebox, or tune into an internet radio station.

Re-Etched is an unofficial, community-maintained fork of Etched 3.0.4 for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge, preserving the original mod’s content while improving online audio playback.

What’s improved?

  • Smoother online audio: improved buffering and decoding for radios, boomboxes, and album jukeboxes.
  • Independent playback: multiple devices can play the same online track without interfering with each other.
  • SoundCloud support: play supported tracks and playlists, with updated link resolution and disc metadata lookup.
  • Bandcamp support: play supported tracks and albums.
  • Radio history: keep your 20 most recently accepted stations separately for each world or multiplayer server. Left-click to select a station; right-click to remove it.
  • Better playback controls: stopping a radio remembers its URL, while stopping or replacing a disc cancels pending loading.

Supported audio

  • Direct MP3 and Ogg/Vorbis radio streams.
  • M3U and PLS radio playlists.
  • ICY radio streams with track metadata when available.
  • SoundCloud sources that provide progressive MP3 audio.
  • Bandcamp sources that provide MP3 audio.
  • Online MP3, Ogg/Vorbis, and PCM WAV discs.

AAC, AAC+, and HLS streams are not supported. SoundCloud and Bandcamp availability depends on the services and the individual tracks.

Installation

Requires Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.x, and Java 17. Forge 47.4.10 is the tested and recommended version. No separate audio library mod is required.

Install Re-Etched on both the client and server for the complete experience.

Replacing Etched? Back up your world, remove the original Etched JAR, and install Re-Etched. Both mods use the same mod ID and cannot be installed together.

The 4.x release line preserves Etched 3.0.4’s content identifiers, disc data, and network protocol. SoundCloud metadata fixes at the etching table require an updated server.
