About
Ravenous Maw is a mod that allows you to tame a living monster that gradually mutates over time. If you can earn its obedience, it becomes a powerful omni-tool that can be shaped and enhanced through Feasts and Mutagens using the Mutation Matrix.
Your Maw is alive—and hungry. You can regenerate (repair) it by feeding it Feasts through any crafting apparatus, so don’t forget to keep the beast well-fed. To advance your Maw through its stages, you must defeat the Ender Dragon, Wither and Warden in order.
Features
- Multiple questionable food options called Feasts (they’re for the Maw, not for you)
- Four Ravenous Maw variants, each with their own unique stage
- 10 Mutations, each with unique abilities and instabilities
- A block called the Mutation Matrix for applying Mutations
- An in-game guidebook: Mutation Codex
- A crafting ingredient called Contaminated Core
Mutations
Each Mutation alters the Maw in dramatic and often dangerous ways:
- Tectonic Bite: A classic hammer-style upgrade. Mining area increases with Maw Stage (up to 9×9). It can be disabled.
- Combustive Enzyme: Hits mark enemies as Combustive, causing them to take increased damage for a short duration.
- Insatiable Voracity: The Maw grows stronger with every kill, increasing its damage output.
- Iris Out: Launches homing or standard projectiles. Targets the cursor and ignores unseen mobs (including those behind you). It can be disabled.
- Undying Flesh: The Maw becomes completely unbreakable.
- Tendril Lash: Extends interaction and reach distance while the Maw is held.
- Resonant Rending: Enables the Maw to deal damage based on a percentage of an enemy’s maximum health.
- Indomitable Will: Removes mining speed penalties while airborne or underwater.
- Adaptive Shift: A flexible Mutation that allows:
- Switching between Silk Touch and Fortune
- Sacrificing loot to temporarily increase damage
- Fine-tuning mining speed (up to the maximum limit)
Development
Ravenous Maw is my first Minecraft mod and is completely open-source. You’re welcome to check out the source code here—though I can’t promise it won’t hurt your eyes.
Due to hardware limitations (yes, I’m running on a potato), the mod hasn’t been tested as extensively as I’d like. Please expect the occasional bug. If you encounter any issues, feel free to report them on the GitHub repository. Feedback of any kind is greatly appreciated.
This mod is inspired by Tinkers’ Construct and JustDireThings.
Future Goals
- Introducing bosses and mobs to expand the staging progression
- Improving acquisition methods
- Enhancing the GUI
- Adding a Feast Smoker block for a more immersive Feast-crafting experience
- A wiki page to provide detailed documentation, progression guides, and mutation breakdowns
