Description
Rampage: Titans Unleashed
A genetic experiment gone wrong. A pathogen turns ordinary animals into city-sized monsters: a gorilla that tears the ground out and hurls it, a winged wolf that rains quills, an armoured crocodile that charges through whole streets. Deeper in the world, a Phoenix guards the Nether and a Mutant Aye-aye haunts the End. Hunt them in their arenas, knock them out, tame them, or raise a Phoenix from an egg and fly it.
Bring tranquilizer darts to the Phoenix and the Mutant Aye-aye
At 10% health, both bosses become invulnerable. Swords, arrows and fire no longer hurt them. This is intended, not a bug.
Only tranquilizer darts break their shield: 3 hits for the Phoenix, 5 for the Aye-aye. Then the boss falls asleep and you can finish it off.
Craft a tranquilizer rifle and a stack of darts before you go. Without them, you can't win these two fights.
Requirements
| Minecraft | 1.20.1 |
| Mod loader | Forge 47.4.10 |
| Java | 17 |
| Other mods | none |
| Side | required on both the client and the server |
| Mod version | 1.0.0 |
To install, put the jar in your mods folder. On a server, every player needs the mod as well.
The mod has been tested with Forge 47.4.10. Other Forge builds for 1.20.1 haven't been tested yet, and they'll be listed here once they have been.
The mutants
| Mutant | Born from | Grows up to | Fights with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mutant Gorilla | Albino gorilla | ×5 | Ground slam, thrown boulders, wall climbing |
| Mutant Wolf | Wolf | ×4 | Pounce, gliding, quill volleys, a howl that calls its pack |
| Mutant Crocodile | Crocodile | ×5 | Heavy armour, tail sweep, charge; lives in water |
| Phoenix (Nether) | Firebird | ×3 | Fireball volleys, explosive fireball, dive; 50% chance to be reborn every time it dies |
| Mutant Aye-aye (End) | Aye-aye | ×4 | Teleports to its prey, finger slam that throws you into the air, homing void orbs, darkness |
Growth. Mutants keep growing over time and with every kill.
- From ×2.5 they become giants that walk straight through buildings.
- Their footsteps shake your camera.
Getting unstuck. They don't wait out an obstacle: they jump, smash through it or walk around it, and they avoid lava.
No cheesing. Climb a pillar and they topple it. Hide behind a wall and they break through.
Fighting smart. They turn on whoever hurts them most. Each species also has its own tricks:
- the gorilla throws boulders at targets it can't reach;
- the wolf bites and springs back;
- the aye-aye blinks in behind you.
Fair melee. Every blow has a 0.6-second wind-up with an audible whoosh, so a shield can block it.
Animals
The mod also adds the creatures the mutants come from:
- Albino gorillas (jungle) live in troops and protect their young.
- Crocodiles (swamps) lie in wait in the water and lunge at prey on the bank.
- Firebirds (Nether) fly in flocks.
- Aye-ayes (End islands) are shy and keep away from people, unless you hold chorus fruit.
Boss arenas
Each arena holds a one-shot boss spawner. When a player comes near, a full-grown boss is released with its own cinematic entrance: the camera circles the boss while it shows off. The gorilla, for example, beats its chest and roars the glass roof of its dome apart.
| Arena | Where it appears | Boss |
|---|---|---|
| Glass dome | Jungle, plains, savanna | Mutant Gorilla |
| Wolf gorge | Taiga, forest, snowy plains | Mutant Wolf |
| Flooded lake | Swamps, mangroves, beaches | Mutant Crocodile |
| Fire nest | Nether | Phoenix |
| Void shrine (101×101 platform) | Outer End islands | Mutant Aye-aye |
Three smaller structures with loot chests also appear in the Overworld: a biotech lab, a primate sanctuary and a crashed space station.
How the fights work:
- Inside the arena, bosses smash everything except its floor and walls.
- Outside, they chase you up to 100 blocks from its centre and wreck the world as they go.
- Ranged cheese doesn't work. The gorilla, the wolf and the aye-aye shrug off attacks from outside their arena and from the air above it.
- If a boss kills you, it goes back to the middle of its arena and falls asleep in its own sleeping pose. It wakes, roaring, only when something hits it.
- Bosses don't regenerate freely. They heal only after killing a player, or slowly once below a quarter of their health.
Last stand of the Phoenix and the Mutant Aye-aye: you need tranquilizer darts. At 10% health they raise a shimmering shield, like the wither's, and a red warning appears above your hotbar.
- They are invulnerable while shielded: blows don't get through, and arrows bounce off.
- Only tranquilizer darts can break the shield: 3 for the Phoenix, 5 for the Aye-aye. The Aye-aye dodges some of them, so bring spares.
- Then the boss collapses asleep, and you have 15 to 30 seconds to finish it off.
Reward. Beating a boss leaves a reward chest where its spawner stood. Inside:
- 2 random kinds of ore blocks, 1–3 of each;
- 2–4 mutant DNA samples;
- whatever the boss dropped of its trophy, its thick hide and a phoenix egg.
Tranquilizers
The tranquilizer rifle is required to beat the Phoenix and the Mutant Aye-aye (see above), and it is useful against every mutant. It fires darts that put a mutant to sleep:
- bigger mutants need more darts: a full-grown wild gorilla or crocodile takes 5, the same mutant as an arena boss takes 9;
- hits keep adding up as long as you land one every 10 seconds;
- a sleeping mutant takes 50% more damage;
- one or two more darts make it sleep longer.
The rifle can be enchanted with Unbreaking and Mending.
Taming and pets
The antidote cures the Mutant Gorilla, the Phoenix and the Mutant Aye-aye, and the cured mutant becomes your pet. Bosses from arenas can't be tamed.
Commands:
- Right-click — follow, or sit.
- Shift + right-click — hunt every hostile mob for three minutes.
How pets behave:
- A pet goes for whoever attacks you first, even a mob that has only just set its sights on you.
- Its area attacks never hurt villagers, animals or your other pets.
- If it gets stuck far behind, it teleports back to you.
Keeper's Whistle. Right-click opens a list of all your pets:
- for each pet: where it is (distance or dimension, and coordinates) and its health;
- a Call button for each pet, and a Call everyone button;
- a button to rename each pet; unnamed pets of the same kind get numbers.
Calling works even when a pet is in an unloaded chunk or another dimension.
Raise and ride your own Phoenix
- The egg. Phoenixes drop a Phoenix Egg 25% of the time.
- Hatching. Place it near heat (lava, fire, magma or a lit campfire) and it hatches in about 10 minutes. Blaze powder speeds it up, and a cold egg slowly loses its warmth.
- The chick belongs to whoever placed the egg. It never fights: when danger comes near, it dashes away to safety.
- Growing up. It grows from ×1 to ×3 over time, and blaze powder and blaze rods make it grow faster.
- The saddle. From size ×2 it takes a Phoenix Saddle, crafted from a saddle, mutant DNA and thick hide.
Flying. The Phoenix flies wherever you look.
- While riding it, you can't burn and lava can't hurt you.
- If you jump off in mid-air, you drift down slowly.
- When you get off, it waits for you there.
- It hates water: steer it down to the surface and it throws you off and climbs away.
Gear
| Item | What it does |

| Antidote | Cures and tames mutants |
| Mutant serum | Strength, speed and health, at the cost of constant hunger |
| Tranquilizer rifle and darts | Put mutants to sleep |
| Helix Antenna | With a redstone signal, lures every wild mutant within 96 blocks |

Trophies. Each mutant drops one trophy:
- gorilla fur, a wolf quill or a crocodile scale, more likely the bigger the mutant;
- a phoenix feather or an aye-aye finger, always.
Crafting the weapons:
- three overworld trophies make the mutant sword or bow;
- the Phoenix and Aye-aye trophies plus netherite upgrade it to the Titan sword or bow;
- an upgraded weapon keeps its enchantments and its name.
Advancements. 17, from your first mutation to defeating all five bosses.
Configuration
config/rampage-common.toml (server):
- whether mutants smash blocks, and the hardest block they can break;
- growth on or off, maximum size, growth speed and growth per kill;
- the antenna's range.
config/rampage-client.toml:
- camera shake (it also turns off with the vanilla View Bobbing setting);
- cinematic boss entrances.
Compatibility notes
- Block protection:
- mutants respect the
mobGriefinggame rule and the mod's own block-smashing setting; - block breaking goes through Forge's block-protection event, so land-claim mods can protect their areas;
- they never break chests, barrels, furnaces or any other block with contents.
- mutants respect the
- Loot: structures use their own loot tables, so datapacks can change them.
