Description

Radioactive Containment

The description will have same style with images and decoration as all my other projects but I don't have time to do it right now, and for now there will be 1.20.1 only and later more versions will be added (1.19.2...1.21.1....). Stay tuned!

Radioactive Containment is a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge mod inspired by the atmosphere of games such as STALKER, introducing dangerous surface radiation zones, protective equipment, radiation detection, environmental effects, and survival mechanics.

The world contains procedurally generated radiation zones that appear across the Overworld. These zones have irregular shapes, different danger levels, and affect the environment and creatures within them. Radiation begins at Y=60 and extends upward, while underground areas remain protected from the radiation system.

Multiplayer

Radioactive Containment supports multiplayer environments and can be used on both dedicated servers and integrated singleplayer servers.

For multiplayer, the mod must be installed on both the server and every connecting player. Radiation zones, radiation damage, armor effects, detection, environmental effects, and other gameplay mechanics are synchronized between the server and clients.

The mod uses server-side logic and networking to ensure that each player receives the appropriate radiation state and visual/audio effects individually.

Radiation Zones

Radiation zones are generated deterministically from the world's seed, allowing the same world to always generate the same radiation locations. Each zone has an irregular polygon shape rather than a simple circle and can have one of three danger levels:

  • Danger Level 1 — 100 Radiation Points

  • Danger Level 2 — 200 Radiation Points

  • Danger Level 3 — 300 Radiation Points

Radiation detection is based on the distance from the actual edge of a zone, allowing the Radiation Meter to become increasingly active as the player approaches danger.

Radiation Damage

Players inside radiation zones take periodic radiation damage based on the zone's danger level and their total Radiation Protection Points.

Radiation uses a custom damage type that bypasses conventional armor, enchantments, resistance effects, and shields. Only dedicated radiation protection can reduce the resulting damage.

Radiation also damages specialized radiation armor over time, regardless of Unbreaking, eventually destroying equipment that remains exposed for too long.

Radiation Armor

The mod adds two protective equipment tiers:

Radiation MK.I

  • 25 Radiation Protection per piece

  • 100 Radiation Protection for a full set

Radiation MK.II

  • 75 Radiation Protection per piece

  • 300 Radiation Protection for a full set

The armor can be mixed between tiers to create different protection levels. Both armor sets can be repaired using Uranium Ingots.

Radiation Meter

The Radiation Meter detects nearby radiation zones without requiring the player to already be inside one.

The detector reacts according to the distance from the zone's edge:

  • Over 100 blocks — silent

  • 100–51 blocks — slow beeps

  • 50–21 blocks — faster beeps with increased pitch

  • 20 blocks or less — rapid, higher-pitched beeps

The meter uses client-side sound playback synchronized through server packets, ensuring that only the player using the detector hears the signal.

Environmental Effects

Radiation affects the appearance of the environment.

Water inside radiation zones becomes visibly radioactive with custom green still, flowing, and water-overlay textures, while normal water outside radiation zones remains unchanged.

Radiation zones also produce a static visual overlay and danger indicator showing the current radiation level. A matching static radiation sound plays while the player remains inside a dangerous zone and stops immediately after leaving it.

Passive Creatures

Radiation is not limited to players. Passive creatures exposed to radiation also receive periodic radiation damage, including animals, water animals, ambient creatures, and villagers.

Hostile mobs are unaffected.

Uranium

Uranium Ore generates naturally in the Overworld and can be processed into Uranium Ingots.

Uranium Ore supports:

  • Silk Touch

  • Fortune

  • Normal ore drops

  • Uranium-based crafting and equipment repair

Crafting System

The mod includes a custom shaped-recipe system that supports exact ingredient quantities per crafting slot.

This allows recipes such as:

  • 2 Uranium Ingots in a single slot

  • 3 Uranium Ingots in a single slot

  • Exact quantities of Iron and other materials

  • Tag-based ingredients such as any color of wool

The system uses normal Minecraft crafting tables while extending them with per-slot ingredient counts.

Radiation Manual

A Radiation Manual is provided as an in-game reference guide.

The manual contains nine recipe pages covering all major radiation equipment and tools. Recipes are rendered directly from the mod's actual recipe data using Minecraft item models and textures, so no static recipe screenshots are required.

New players receive the Radiation Manual and an introductory radiation information message when they first join the world.

Mod Content

Current major additions include:

  • Uranium Ore

  • Uranium Ingot

  • Radiation MK.I Armor

  • Radiation MK.II Armor

  • Radiation Meter

  • Radiation Manual

  • Three radiation danger levels

  • Procedural radiation zones

  • Green radioactive water

  • Radiation static effects

  • Radiation detection sounds

  • Passive-mob radiation damage

  • Custom radiation damage type

  • Custom exact-count crafting recipes

  • Custom Creative Mode tab

Radioactive Containment is designed around the idea that radiation should feel like an environmental threat rather than simply another status effect: something the player must detect, prepare for, and respect while exploring the world.
