What's new

## 0.142.0 - 2026-10-07

### Added
- Casting has a choreography: while a spell charges, lights are drawn into the casting hand and a seal widens under the caster; a channelled spell hums with circling lights; when a spell leaves, a flash blooms in the hand and your view kicks a little (the strength is the new setting Cast kick).
- Shields, heals and buffs show: a creature with an Arcane Shield is wrapped in a golden dome that thins, flares where it is hit and shatters when it breaks; healing sends up green lights; every beneficial effect of the mod shows a slow light in its colour.
- A hit feels like its element: a flame shell, crystals of frost, arcs of light, chips of stone, a splash, a bloom of light, falling leaves or smoke on the struck creature, and a mark on the ground (a scorch, frost, a stain) that fades in a few seconds.
- Fields, auras, walls, traps and summonings have their own looks: turning rings with rune marks, a sheet of lights for a wall, a trap that gathers and flares when it goes off, and a circle that opens when something is summoned.
- A turning ring at the feet for each permanent aura that is on, and eyes and a chest that glow in the colour of the spell while you cast.
- Staffs glow: calm at rest, bright and sparking while their wearer charges or channels a spell, and a floating staff leaves a trail. The colour and the sparks come from the core material (astralite throws stars).
- A cast bar above the hotbar for charged and channelled spells, a feed of the last reactions at the top right, the core shape of each spell on the spell wheel, and a glow on the chosen spell.
- A great spell dims the sky for a moment (never past a third, no flashing) and scorches the ground.
- Nine new settings in the Codex (Settings) switch each of these off; none of them is drawn at the lowest effect quality.

### Changed
- A wall spell sends one effect instead of nine, so it costs the network less.

### Upgrade notes
- Players on an older version cannot join a server of this version (the network protocol changed).

## 0.141.0 - 2026-10-07

### Changed
- The Tether shows as a thicker beam with a line of light motes between the two tied creatures, so the tie is easy to see.
- The Hearthfire burns brighter: fuller flames, embers and a ring of light now and then.

## 0.140.0 - 2026-10-07

### Fixed
- Tooltips in the Codex wrap long lines instead of running across the whole window, and the Rune Tray's rune icons no longer show through them.

## 0.139.0 - 2026-10-07

### Changed
- Homing projectiles look for their target every fourth tick instead of every tick, and keep it between looks. Spells with a homing rune cost the server a little less when many fly at once.

### Fixed
- The game no longer keeps a few small records (the pause between two spell sounds, the text of the last refused cast) of players who have left the server.
