With this mod, you'll be able to craft obsidian by combining a water bucket and a lava bucket in your inventory. This will remove the hassle of having to go out searching for a pool of lava either on- or underground, as sometimes, depending on your location, this can take a while, and at the same time, you can now avoid the insanely long time it takes to mine each block.
