What's new

Pure Metal 0.3.0

Pure Metal already boosts FPS on its own. The new upscaling settings are optional extras, and you can leave them alone.

New

  • MetalFX Temporal upscaling. It renders the world at a lower resolution and rebuilds a sharp image from recent frames. In our test on a MacBook Air M2 at 3420x2148 with Sodium, native ran at about 120 FPS, 67% Bilinear at about 190 FPS and 67% Temporal at about 240 FPS.
  • Temporal turns itself off when an Iris shader pack is active, or when your Mac doesn't support it.
  • A simpler upscaling menu with two settings:
    • Upscaler: Bilinear, MetalFX Spatial or MetalFX Temporal.
    • Render Scale: a free slider.
  • A live "Renders at A → B" readout shows the resolution the game renders at. Hover over it to see why a lower render scale raises FPS.
  • The menu is in Video Settings and in Sodium's options. A short note under the Pure Metal title says these settings are optional.

Fixes

  • Option text shows in English even when Fabric API isn't installed.
  • Less GPU work when upscaling. An extra full-screen copy was removed.
  • The Sodium options integration only turns on for Sodium versions it has been checked against (0.9.2), so other versions don't crash.
  • Logs and error messages show your home folder as ~ instead of your macOS username.

Everything from 0.2.2 is included.
