What's new

[0.3.2] — drone items and ghosts show the real drone

Minecraft 26.3 · Fabric and NeoForge · Java 25 · required on client and server. Network protocol version 6 is unchanged, so 0.3.2 can play with 0.3.1 and 0.3.0. Worlds, drones, ghosts and settings load unchanged.

  • Drone items show their own drone: in the inventory, hotbar, hand, item frames, on the ground, in the creative tab and in the workbench output slot, a drone item now shows the exact drone stored on it: frame size, parts, accessories, paint job, prop damage and a missing battery. Small whoops and big 7" drones are scaled to stay readable in a slot, and identical drones share one icon so full inventories stay fast.
  • Ghosts look like the drone that flew the lap: your own ghost and the course record ghost are now drawn as the real, translucent drone model with its paint (bluish for your ghost, golden for the record) instead of a box. Ghosts recorded with older versions use your current drone when it is the same class, otherwise a matching preset. Record ghosts saved by a 0.3.2 server are not shown on 0.3.1 or older clients.

[0.3.1] — two-handed radio in first person and stackable gates

Minecraft 26.3 · Fabric and NeoForge · Java 25 · required on client and server. Network protocol version 6 is unchanged, so 0.3.1 and 0.3.0 can play together. Worlds, drones and settings load unchanged.

  • Radio in first person: the radio now sits lower and smaller in view and no longer climbs up the screen when you look down at the drone during line-of-sight flight. The forearms come up from the bottom corners with the thumbs on the sticks, and the pose stays the same at any field of view and aspect ratio.
  • Off-hand item hidden while holding the radio: as long as the radio is held with both hands, the item in the other hand is no longer drawn on top of it, in first and third person. It comes back as soon as you put the radio away. Scoping or using an item switches back to the normal one-handed view.
  • Stackable race gates: right-click a placed gate with a gate item to put it on top, up to four gates high. Stacked gates form one ladder like real drone ladders: the top bar of the lower gate becomes the shared middle bar with T-pieces, the side posts run straight through, and the bottom gate of a stack stands on legs. A gate is never wider than the one below it; look back while stacking to flip the new gate for zig-zag ladders. Each gate stays its own course gate with its own number and arrows, collision follows the drawn frame, and when a gate in the middle is broken the gates above it slide down. The race line takes a detour around double gates flown in the same direction, the Drone Arena world course now has a three-gate ladder, and a new Flight School step shows how to stack.

[0.3.0] — paint jobs, world race courses, spectating, ghost races and freestyle tricks

Minecraft 26.3 · Fabric and NeoForge · Java 25 · required on client and server. Network protocol version 6: client and server must both run 0.3.0. Worlds, drones, courses and settings from 0.2.x load unchanged; old drones keep their original colors and old leaderboards are carried over once.

Paint jobs

  • New Paint button at the Drone Workbench opens a paint screen with a rotatable 3D preview. Twelve parts can be painted separately: frame, TPU and accents, motor bells, each of the four props, stack boards, battery wrap, camera, antenna tips and accessories. Click a part in the preview to select it.
  • The 16 dye colors, five finishes (Carbon, Gunmetal, Aluminium, Gold, Copper) and any hex color; Apply to all props, copy and paste (also Ctrl/Cmd+C/V), reset per part or for the whole drone, and four presets (Carbon Classic, Neon, Race Team, Arctic).
  • In survival every repainted part costs one matching dye (a finish costs its dye, a custom color the closest dye you carry). Going back to the original color is free, creative is free.
  • The paint job is synced to every player, shows in the drone's item icon and stays with the frame when you take the drone apart and rebuild it. To repaint a finished drone, put it into the workbench's salvage slot.

Race courses in the world

  • Four ready-made race courses now generate in the overworld: Field Slalom (plains, sunflower plains, meadows), Canyon Run (badlands and desert), Forest Weave (forests and taiga, wood follows the biome) and the rarer Drone Arena (plains, savanna, snowy plains) with stands, a ruined wall and raised gates.
  • Every course has numbered Propwash gates that become a course by themselves, a waxed sign at the start with name, course number, record time and record holder (updated on every new record), and a modest loot chest with props, intermediate parts, small batteries and now and then a better part.
  • Courses keep a distance from villages and other structures. Find one with /locate structure #propwash:world_courses. Server owners can stop new courses in ungenerated terrain with the rule worldCourses in server.json.

Video channels and spectating

  • Every video transmitter now sends on a channel: analog on R1–R8 and F1–F8 with the real 5.8 GHz frequencies, digital on CH1–CH8. The server hands out free channels automatically; you can also fix a channel in the new Video Channel tab.
  • With goggles on, press F7 to cycle through the channels of other pilots your goggles can receive and watch their camera feed, with your own video breakup depending on your distance to their drone. The pilot's OSD and a caption with channel, frequency, pilot and drone are shown (both switchable). F7 past the last channel, Esc or right-click returns to your own view.
  • New VTX OSD element with the current channel. Servers can turn spectating off with the rule allowSpectating.

Ghost races, leaderboards and race starts

  • Your personal best lap per course and drone class flies along as a blue ghost; the server record of your drone class can fly along as a gold ghost. Split times at every gate and at the lap end show the gap to the ghost.
  • Leaderboards are now stored in the world, per course and drone class (top 10 with pilot, time and date). Only laps the server verified count; laps flown with altitude or position hold, GPS Rescue or modified physics do not. New course and class records are announced in chat.
  • New leaderboard window with a course switch, class filter and podium colors: right-click the air with the Course Tool or use Open leaderboard in the Race tab.
  • Standing starts with start lights: press Restart race at the start gate (or arm there with Start when arming) to line up. Other pilots at the start can join; the race starts for everyone at the same moment after a 3-2-1-GO start light. Several pilots get their finishing order in chat.
  • A false start through the start gate before GO now costs 3 seconds instead of cancelling the run. Drifting behind the gate is no longer a false start.

Race line and gate markings

  • In a running race a glowing race line guides you through the next gates (1–8 gates ahead, default 3; switchable in the Race tab). It never shows while free flying or building.
  • Course gates carry their number on a sign, glowing arrows on the ground in front of the entry side and red markings on the back. Gate 1 is the checkered start/finish gate with a "START · FINISH" banner.

Freestyle tricks

  • Propwash now recognizes freestyle tricks while you fly: flips and rolls (single, double, triple), power loop, Matty flip, split-S, dive with recovery, yaw spins, orbit, inverted hang, gaps and proximity.
  • Points with combos (×1.5 up to ×4 when the next trick follows within 3 seconds), less for repeating the same trick, and a style bonus for flying close to blocks and clean recoveries. A crash or disarm loses the combo bonus.
  • A Tricks OSD element shows each trick and combo, and the post-flight stats show trick points and the best combo.
  • New Freestyle tab: detection on, off or automatic (on for freestyle, whoop and cinewhoop builds, off for race and long range), with the points table and your live score.

Look and feel

  • Damaged props now show their state in three steps: chipped tips and nicks when worn, a big chunk missing when badly damaged, and a blade snapped off at the hub plus a bent blade when broken. The same look appears in the world, in the workbench and service previews, in the Flight School and on the prop's item icon.
  • The heavy action cam is smaller (60 × 45 × 35 mm) and sits on a red TPU mount in front of the camera cage, tilted up, without clipping into the battery. The light action cam sits on a red TPU cradle with a strap.
  • LED strips and arm LEDs glow with soft halos and stand out in the dark. Spinning prop discs are subtler, so frame and motors stay readable. The FPV headlight is warm white, lightly tinted by the LED color, with a clearly visible cone.
  • In first person the remote sits lower and closer, with both hands on the grips and thumbs on the sticks, keeping the view ahead clear for line-of-sight flying. On an armor stand's head the remote is small and flat.
  • Spectating no longer shows your own race line and home marker, shows the pilot's real battery voltage and keeps the normal gate colors. The race line hides when you are far away from the course.

[0.2.1] — clearer action cam recordings, survival recipe book

Minecraft 26.3 · Fabric and NeoForge · Java 25 · required on client and server. Network protocol version 5 is unchanged, so 0.2.1 and 0.2.0 can play together. Worlds, drones and settings load unchanged.

  • Cleaner recordings: the Action Cam Light grain is now much subtler and only shows in very dark areas. A new Camera grain switch in the Action Cam tab turns it off completely.
  • Recording quality setting (High / Standard / Small, with an estimated size in MB per minute). Recordings now keep a steady image quality with a bitrate cap instead of a fixed bitrate, so calm scenes get smaller files and fast or dark scenes no longer break up into blocks. Standard is the default and never exceeds the old bitrate.
  • Better video encoder: finer detail in flat and dark areas, no more visible horizontal seams across the image, and much sharper fast pans and flips thanks to a wider motion search.
  • Recipe book in survival: every Propwash recipe can now be unlocked. Picking up any ingredient unlocks its recipes, and any Propwash item (workbench, intermediate part or loot find) unlocks all of them. Recipes sit in sensible tabs (parts, goggles, radio and course tool under Equipment, intermediate parts, workbench and charger under Miscellaneous, gates under Building Blocks), and searching for "propwash" lists every Propwash entry.
  • Flight school: callouts now point exactly at their target in every window size and GUI scale, because the 3D scene is drawn with the same projection as the callouts. The survival scene points to the recipe book at the crafting table instead of the 2x2 inventory grid.

[0.2.0] — accessories, action cams, LED strips and part wear

Minecraft 26.3 · Fabric (Fabric Loader 0.19.5+, Fabric API 0.161.0+26.3) and NeoForge (26.3.0.10-beta+) · Java 25 · required on client and server. Network protocol version 5: client and server must both run 0.2.0. Worlds and drones from 0.1.0 load unchanged; existing parts start in perfect condition.

Accessories

  • Two new accessory slots at the Drone Workbench: an action cam on top of the frame and an LED strip under the nose. Weight, center of gravity, inertia, frontal area and current draw go into the flight model, so a heavy cam high up makes the drone slower to roll and flip. Recipes, chest loot, models and Shift tooltips included.
  • Action Cam Light (42 g, powered by the flight battery, raw image up to 1080p60) and Action Cam Heavy (150 g, stabilization with optional horizon levelling up to 1440p60, its own battery of about 90 minutes at 1080p that charges over USB from the flight pack while the drone is parked).

Action cams that really record

  • Records the clean FPV camera image, without OSD and radio breakup, as an MP4 file (H.264, 30 or 60 fps, 720p to 1440p) in propwash/recordings, optionally with the drone's motor sound as an AAC track. The files play in browsers, on Windows, macOS and phones.
  • Start and stop with F9 (rebindable in the Keys tab), a switch or button on your radio (new Record function in the Modes tab), or automatically when you arm.
  • A small REC element in the OSD (blinking dot and time, save progress afterwards), Propwash toasts for start, stop and saved clips, and a new Action Cam configurator tab for resolution, frame rate, stabilization and sound.
  • Recordings window with thumbnail, date, length, format and size of every clip: play it in your system player, delete it or open the folder. Encoding runs in the background so the game stays smooth.

LED strips and headlight

  • The LED strip glows in 11 colors with the modes steady, blink, arm status, battery warning and rainbow, and a brightness setting like Betaflight's LED_STRIP. The settings are stored on the drone and visible to other players.
  • In FPV the strip lights the way ahead in the dark, so caves become flyable; with shader packs a simpler overlay cone is used instead.
  • New LED Strip configurator tab with an animated 3D preview.
  • Switch the LEDs off and on in flight: the new LEDs off switch function (like Betaflight's LED_LOW) goes on any radio switch, range or button in the Modes tab or the receiver wizard, including inverted switches and buttons that toggle; keyboard pilots press F8. The strip, its glow, the FPV headlight and the LambDynamicLights light go dark at once for every player; an LED OFF OSD element shows it. Without an assignment the LEDs glow as before.
  • Optional support for LambDynamicLights (Fabric and NeoForge): drones with an LED strip become real light sources.

Part wear

  • Every crash wears the parts down depending on the impact: props after about five crashes, motors after about 45, camera and frame after about 110; flight controller and battery last longest, and very hard hits puff up the pack.
  • Damaged props cost thrust and add vibration, a broken prop leaves the drone unable to fly; a damaged camera shows tearing and jitter. The OSD warns (for example PROP DMG), tooltips and the workbench show the condition of every part.
  • Swap props in the field: hold props of the same type, sneak and right-click the drone. Other parts are replaced at the workbench. Accessories do not wear.
  • Crash damage can only be switched off or scaled with the creative goggles; servers can disable it with the partWear rule.
  • New Flight School lesson "Swapping props and damage".

Flying and video

  • Realistic top speeds: the Freestyle preset now reaches about 147 km/h instead of up to 202 km/h (Racer 175, Long Range 113, Cinewhoop 65, Whoop 39). Hover, punch and handling are unchanged.
  • The FPV picture no longer shakes at high speed: motor vibration now follows each prop's rotation speed and stays out of the flight controller's control band.
  • Realistic video breakup: analog fades in stages (soft picture, torn lines and sparkles, loss of color, snow with sync jumps, full static, short multipath dropouts near walls); digital stays digital (blur, resolution steps, blocks, stutter and freezes, then "NO SIGNAL"). The OSD always stays on top.
  • In FPV the pilot no longer turns to follow the drone; only in line of sight does the view follow it.

Radio

  • A new radio or gamepad is detected once and set up once: Propwash asks "New radio detected – set it up now?" (never in flight or over a menu) with a pre-filled wizard.
  • Invert every switch assignment with its own toggle in the Modes tab and the receiver wizard.
  • Arming safety like Betaflight: if a changed assignment or a newly connected radio makes the arm switch active, the drone only arms after the switch has been turned off and on again.
  • The remote is held with both hands in front of the chest in third person, for other players too.

Flight School

  • Twelve lessons now, including "Action cam: recording videos" and "Swapping props and damage".

[0.1.0] — first public release

Minecraft 26.3 · Fabric (Fabric Loader 0.19.5+, Fabric API 0.161.0+26.3) and NeoForge (26.3.0.10-beta+) · Java 25 · required on client and server.

Flying

  • Own flight model: rigid body with motor, ESC and battery simulation, rotor aerodynamics with ducts, ground effect, prop wash, voltage sag, wind, gusts and turbulence. Weight, thrust, hover throttle, top speed and flight time follow from the parts of each drone.
  • Betaflight-style flight controller: Betaflight and Actual rates, PID with feed-forward, I-term relax, anti-gravity, TPA, airmode, Acro/Angle/Horizon, arming checks, crash disarm and failsafe.
  • FPV through bound, matching goggles, or line of sight with your view following the drone and a compact radio HUD.
  • Radio link with about 800 blocks of full range; the connection is lost at about 1,200 blocks. In creative mode or with the creative goggles there is no fixed radio limit (the goggles' range setting and the server limit apply).
  • Flip upright after a crash and a locator beeper to find a lost drone.
  • GPS Rescue: return to home with obstacle avoidance, automatic landing, home point modes and failsafe on radio loss.

Drones and parts

  • Five frames (65 mm whoop, 3" cinewhoop, 5" freestyle, 5" race with a stretched-X layout, 7" long range), three flight controller stacks, six motors, five propellers, five batteries and four video units, each with its own 3D model. Frames take several options where real ones do (motors, stack sizes, props).
  • Drone Workbench with slots in a top-down drone layout, live 3D preview, build analysis, errors and warnings, and a salvage slot that takes drones apart again.
  • Five ready-to-fly presets in the creative tab: Whoop, Cinewhoop, Freestyle, Racer and Long Range.
  • The flight controller tune is stored on the drone and survives picking it up; taking a drone apart and rebuilding it keeps its tune and its radio and goggles binding.
  • Name your drone in the configurator, with a name tag on the placed drone or in an anvil.

Radio, gamepad and keyboard

  • EdgeTX/OpenTX radios over USB (USB joystick mode) and gamepads through SDL3, with hot-plugging.
  • Receiver wizard for device, channels, calibration and switches; free assignment of arm, angle, horizon, rescue, flip upright, set home, beeper and race restart to AUX ranges or buttons, as hold or toggle.
  • Every function has its own key (including Acro, Angle and Horizon), changeable in the configurator's Keys tab.
  • Throttle modes for radios and spring-centered gamepad sticks; keyboard flight as a fallback.
  • FPV Remote item whose sticks move with your inputs.

Video

  • Analog video with noise, tearing, color smear, rolling bars and sync loss; digital video with block artifacts, stutter, freezes and a hard cut to "NO SIGNAL".
  • Latency and range per video unit, signal damping by blocks, leaves and water.
  • Analog, digital and creative FPV goggles; the creative goggles receive every system and have free latency, range and noise settings.
  • Field of view per goggles and a "Reduce flicker" option; a simpler overlay is used when a shader pack is active.

OSD

  • Betaflight-like OSD with 41 elements, presets (Minimal, Standard, Full/Telemetry, Race) and a drag-and-drop editor with opacity, size, colors, outline and background.

Batteries and charging

  • Every battery carries its own charge with charge bar, percentage and resting voltage.
  • Battery fit per frame, battery menu with sneak + right-click and a quick swap with a pack in hand.
  • Battery Charger with four bays, charge time by capacity, faster with redstone, comparator output and hopper support; the placed block shows the packs in its bays and a status LED per bay.

Racing

  • Race gates in three sizes, a course tool to link them into courses and a green light on your next gate.
  • Lap timing with flying start or countdown, splits against your best lap, missed-gate and wrong-way detection, false-start detection, configurable laps and a best-lap ghost.
  • Per-world leaderboards with server-side checks and /propwash race commands.

Survival mode

  • Recipes for every item except the creative goggles, balanced in tiers from copper, iron and redstone up to gold, diamonds, quartz, amethyst, glowstone and echo shards.
  • Five crafting materials: Carbon Plate, Copper Coil, Circuit Board, LiPo Cell and HD Video Chip.
  • Recipe book unlocks through advancements; the Drone Workbench unlocks the starter set.
  • Chest loot in villages, mineshafts, dungeons, temples, pillager outposts, strongholds, shipwrecks, trial chambers, vaults, ancient cities and end cities, including the rare ready-to-fly whoop. Found batteries and drones come with storage charge.

Propwash dust

  • Drones flying close to the ground stir up subtle dust in the color of the block below, and a fine spray over water. Height, amount and spread follow from thrust, prop size and tilt; works for every visible drone.
  • Settings in the Display tab (on/off, amount); follows Minecraft's particle setting.

Flight School

  • Ten animated 3D lessons: building a drone, binding remote and goggles, FPV and line of sight, batteries and charging, gates and racing, video systems, the configurator, GPS Rescue and failsafe, crashes and range, and survival crafting.
  • Callouts, highlights, your real key bindings, a rotatable and zoomable camera and a timeline with steps.
  • Opens by holding the Flight School key (default M) over any Propwash item, by pressing it in the world, or from the configurator.

Interface and sound

  • Betaflight-style configurator (default K, also from the mod list: NeoForge, and Mod Menu on Fabric) with tabs for overview, flight school, configuration, PID tuning, rates, receiver, modes, keys, video, OSD, race, GPS rescue, simulation, display, audio and server. The footer shows whether a tab saves to the drone or is a game setting.
  • Shift tooltips on every Propwash item.
  • Real-time synthesized motor sound per drone with Doppler effect, duct resonance and beeps for arming, battery, gates, laps and countdown.

Servers

  • Chunks load, generate and stream around the drone instead of the pilot, within a shared chunk budget; servers can restrict chunk generation to operators or to already generated terrain.
  • Server rules in config/propwash/server.json (permissions, range, speed limit, view distance, chunk budget, spawn protection, charge times) and /propwash commands.
  • Server-side validation of pilot movement and a clear message when client and server run different Propwash versions. Miscellaneous, gates under Building Blocks), and searching for "propwash" lists every Propwash entry.
  • Flight school: callouts now point exactly at their target in every window size and GUI scale, because the 3D scene is drawn with the same projection as the callouts. The survival scene points to the recipe book at the crafting table instead of the 2x2 inventory grid.
