What's new
Project Flint — v0.22.4-a → v0.28.22-a
Major Player-Facing Changelog
This changelog only covers changes that meaningfully affect progression, survival, tools, resources, machines, storage, or how the player interacts with the world. Minor texture fixes, internal rewrites, localization fixes, and development-only changes have been left out.
v0.22.4-a — Survival, Rest & Early Construction
Added Sanding Paper as a real processing tool, opening new ways to process flowers, bones, wool, and other early materials.
Added Filed Bone, Woven Wool, the Bone Firestarter, and the Bone Club, significantly expanding the usefulness of animal resources.
Added the Crude Sleeping Bag, giving players their first portable way to skip the night. Sleeping Bags can be dyed and grant a short regeneration bonus after sleeping.
Added the Place in World system. Many progression items can now be physically placed on the ground and retrieved instead of existing only as inventory items.
Added the first Mortar progression:
- Clay Mortar
- Unfired Mortar Bricks
- Mortar Bricks
Mortar Bricks provide one of the first proper permanent building materials that does not behave like loose primitive earth.
Added major survival conditions including Hungry, Weakened, and Dying. Severe hunger or injury now directly reduces player capability instead of only changing the vanilla bars.
Cows now provide raw hide/leather material rather than immediately giving finished vanilla Leather.
v0.22.5-a – v0.22.6-a — Woven Technology & Renewable Resources
Sleeping Bags were upgraded into proper two-block beds and now reliably skip the night.
Flint-tier harvesting was expanded:
- Flowers can be harvested intact.
- Dead Bushes, Firefly Bushes, forage bushes, and similar vegetation became properly harvestable.
Squids now provide Raw Calamari and Animal Bones.
Eating raw meat or fish now carries actual survival risk through temporary Poison, Nausea, and Hunger penalties.
Added Cooked Calamari.
Reed Backpack
- Added the Reed Backpack, one of the biggest early progression upgrades.
- Equipping it expands the player's usable hotbar from 5 slots to all 9 slots.
- Provides a small amount of armor.
- This turns carrying capacity itself into something the player technologically progresses through.
Bone Brush
Added the Bone Brush.
Brushing Sand:
- converts the Sand into Clay;
- produces Sand Flakes.
Sand Flakes can be processed into a Sand Ball and fired into Glass Shards.
Brushing Gravel provides 1 Flint per Gravel, creating a deliberate renewable Flint-processing route.
The Bone Brush can also shear Sheep, producing 3–4 Project Flint Wool while allowing the Sheep to regrow its wool normally.
Storage & Terrain
- Added the Mortar Chest, providing 7 storage slots.
- Added Loose Dirt Slabs.
- Working Loose Dirt with a multitool produces two slabs from the original block, allowing early terrain to be shaped more deliberately.
v0.23-a – v0.23.5-a — The Advanced Flint Age
This was one of the largest progression expansions in Project Flint.
Advanced Kiln
Added Advanced Kiln Glass and a complete reusable clay mold system.
Added molds for:
- Flint Axe
- Flint Plant Cutters
- Advanced Flint Multitool
- Mortar Bricks
- Clay Pots
Fired molds are reusable rather than being destroyed every time.
Added the 2×2×2 Advanced Kiln multiblock.
The Advanced Kiln uses Burnt Branches, Flint, Fired Clay, and a reusable mold to cast advanced components.
The kiln has a dedicated processing GUI and can be dismantled without simply destroying all of the resources invested into it.
Advanced Tool Assembly
Cast tool pieces are not simply crafted into finished tools. They are assembled physically with Burnt Branches, continuing Project Flint's world-interaction-based crafting system.
Flint Axe
- Added the first dedicated Flint Axe.
- Allows deliberate tree harvesting.
- Logs take significant time to cut and are obtained as stripped logs rather than instantly turning trees into vanilla wood products.
- Also became the proper tool for retrieving wooden slabs and later processed wood materials.
Flint Plant Cutters
- Added the dedicated Flint Plant Cutters.
- Designed specifically for vegetation harvesting.
- Harvests Short Grass, flowers, Sugar Cane, bushes, and other plant materials far more effectively than primitive tools.
- Sugar Cane processing through the Plant Cutters produces Sugarcane/Reed Rolls, while the Advanced Flint Multitool retains the normal Sugar Cane harvesting route.
- Plant Cutters now inherit the important plant-harvesting functionality available to the Advanced Flint Multitool rather than being strangely worse than the general-purpose tool.
Advanced Flint Multitool
Added the Advanced Flint Multitool with substantially higher durability and faster general-purpose processing.
Combines and improves the earlier hammer, cutter, and multitool capabilities.
Important harvesting includes:
- Dirt/Grass → 3 Dirt Piles
- Gravel → Flint + Flint Chips
- Leaves → multiple Branches with a small Apple chance
Can retrieve important progression blocks intact, including:
- Sleeping Bags
- Baked Clay Kilns
- Clay Grinders
Recovered dyed Sleeping Bags retain their color.
Pottery & Building
- Added reusable Clay Pot casting.
- Added Mortar Brick Slabs.
- Added Crude Clay Slabs.
- Several slab and material-processing recipes became reversible, reducing unnecessary resource loss.
v0.25-a – v0.25.1-a — Processed Wood & Animal Resource Rebalance
Complete Processed-Wood Chain
Wood became a real processing chain instead of immediately behaving like vanilla lumber.
Vanilla Wood Slab → Sanded Wood Slab → Grinded Wood Slab → Woven Wood Slab → Woven Wood
- Sanding Paper is used to create Sanded Wood.
- The Clay Grinder further processes Sanded Wood.
- Woven Fans are used to turn processed slabs into Woven Wood Slabs.
- Woven Wood can then be produced as a full construction/crafting material.
- Slab orientation and double-slab states remain intact during processing.
- Reverse processing recipes were added so the system is not permanently one-way.
Animal Drops
Animal Bones were rebalanced around animal size:
- Chicken → 1
- Pig → 1–2
- Sheep → 1–3
- Cow → 2–3
- Squid → 1–3
Sheep also provide 1–2 Project Flint Wool when killed, while Bone Brush shearing provides the superior renewable route.
v0.26 – v0.27 — Survival & Environmental Expansion
- Project Flint's survival-condition system was expanded beyond basic health and hunger penalties.
- Environmental effects became more integrated with survival instead of simply displaying ordinary vanilla potion effects.
- Water exposure and fear-related conditions were developed into proper Project Flint states rather than feeling like temporary vanilla status-effect spam.
- Survival feedback and environmental pressure were cleaned up to behave more consistently during normal play.
v0.28.x — Wood → Water Age Transition
The late v0.28 updates begin Project Flint's transition out of the established Wood Age and toward the Water Age.
Wooden Grinder
- Added the Wooden Grinder as a new processing workstation.
- Introduced recipes requiring multiple input materials, allowing more complex manufactured items than the earlier single-material processing chains.
- Dual-input recipes were corrected so ingredients are consumed together only when a valid recipe actually completes.
Sanding Station
Added the Sanding Station, turning Sanding Paper from a collection of individual interactions into a dedicated workstation system.
Sanding Paper now fills the station's internal working durability:
- 1 Sanding Paper = 32 durability
- 256 durability maximum
- recipes consume durability rather than destroying the workstation.
The Sanding Station greatly improves bulk processing for established materials, including:
- Plant Tool Bindings → Woven Fans
- Glass Shards → Advanced Kiln Glass
- Raw Leather → Leather
- Animal Bones → Filed Bone
- Wood Slabs → Sanded Wood Slabs
- Wool → Woven Wool
This makes previously repetitive Wood Age processing substantially faster once the player reaches the end of the tier.
Water Containers & Water Progression
- Added Water Bearing Pots, produced from Woven Wood and Clay Pots.
- Water Bearing Pots can transport half a bucket of water.
- Expanded Clay Pot progression into more advanced water-storage technology.
- Introduced the first water-fed processing multiblock, beginning the next major technological progression stage.
- The processor requires its structure and water supply to function correctly, making water an actual processing resource rather than simply something collected with a vanilla bucket.
Plant Tool Progression Cleanup
- Flint Plant Cutters are now the dedicated specialized vegetation tool and properly handle the full range of important plant interactions.
- The Advanced Flint Multitool remains the versatile general-purpose option.
- Specialized Sugar Cane processing is reserved for the Plant Cutters instead of the Advanced Multitool accidentally producing the same processed output.
Survival & Atmosphere Overhaul
- Environmental debuffs were consolidated so Project Flint conditions no longer rely on ugly stacks of visible vanilla potion effects.
- Fear-related effects were improved so visual effects remain stable instead of repeatedly fading in and out.
- Added true darkness. Areas without meaningful light are now genuinely dark rather than retaining Minecraft's normally generous minimum visibility.
Lighting is therefore becoming a real survival technology instead of mostly a mob-spawn concern.
Progression & Quality-of-Life Improvements
Across these versions:
- The Project Flint advancement tree was expanded to cover major new technologies and progression milestones.
- Advancement detection was made more reliable when players had already completed an action or obtained the required item.
- Important machines and structures became recoverable with the appropriate Flint-tier tools instead of being permanently lost when moved.
- Storage, tool harvesting, physical assemblies, multiblocks, and processed-material interactions received extensive fixes to prevent progression from getting stuck.
- Early tool durability bars now remain hidden while completely unused and only appear once a tool has actually taken wear.
In Short
Since v0.22.4-a, Project Flint has moved from basic primitive clay, bone, and Flint survival into a much broader technological progression centered around:
Portable Rest → Woven Equipment → Renewable Clay & Glass → Mortar Construction → Expanded Storage → Advanced Kiln Casting → Specialized Flint Tools → Processed Wood → Advanced Workstations → Water Storage & Water-Fed Processing
The result is a significantly longer progression path where the player is increasingly able to reshape, process, transport, store, and manufacture resources, rather than simply unlocking stronger versions of vanilla tools.
