Professors Toolkit: Redstone Inspector

Redstone Inspector displays real-time redstone power levels and component information directly in the world. Customize its activation, range, colors, gradient, and visuals to make building and troubleshooting redstone easier.

Redstone Inspector

Understand your circuits, not just their output.

Redstone Inspector is a lightweight, vanilla-friendly utility mod that reveals redstone signal strengths and component information directly in the world.

Designed for builders, technical players, and redstone engineers, Redstone Inspector makes it easier to construct, diagnose, and optimize contraptions without repeatedly opening debug screens or manually testing every connection.

At its core, the mod displays power levels from 0–15 above nearby redstone components. This provides an immediate view of how power travels through a circuit and helps locate weak signals, incorrect states, and disconnected components.

Features

In-World Redstone Inspection

  • Displays signal strengths from 0–15.
  • Updates as circuits change.
  • Shows component states and facing information.
  • Configurable horizontal and vertical inspection range.
  • Adjustable display density and maximum render distance.
  • Optional distance fading.
  • Customizable number scale, height, and opacity.

Supported Components

Redstone Inspector supports common redstone components, including:

  • Redstone Wire
  • Redstone Torches
  • Repeaters
  • Comparators
  • Observers
  • Levers
  • Buttons
  • Pressure Plates
  • Pistons and Sticky Pistons
  • Redstone Blocks
  • Target Blocks
  • Daylight Detectors
  • Tripwire Hooks
  • Sculk Sensors

Individual component types can be enabled or disabled through the configuration screen.

Activation Options

Choose the activation method that best fits your playstyle:

  • Hold Redstone Item — Inspection activates while holding an enabled redstone component.
  • Wear Redstone Goggles — Keep circuit information visible while wearing the goggles.
  • Permanent Toggle — Toggle inspection using the assigned keybind.
  • Disabled — Turn the inspection overlay off completely.

Color Customization

Choose from multiple display modes:

  • Strength Gradient
  • Single Color
  • Vanilla Redstone
  • Custom Gradient

Several ready-to-use presets are included, such as Classic Red, High Contrast, Crimson, Amber, and Colorblind Friendly.

The Custom Gradient editor provides a full color wheel, brightness control, and five editable gradient stops:

  • Zero
  • Low
  • Medium
  • High
  • Maximum

A live signal-strength preview shows exactly how the selected gradient will appear from power level 0 through 15.

Redstone Goggles

Redstone Goggles provide a wearable activation option with configurable visual effects, including:

  • Adjustable lens effect
  • Lens opacity
  • Edge darkness
  • Equip animation

Why Redstone Inspector?

Redstone Inspector was created to solve a simple problem: Minecraft understands every redstone signal in your circuit, but normally gives you very little information about what is happening.

The mod exposes that information in a clear, configurable format while preserving the feel of vanilla gameplay. It does not automate redstone or change how circuits behave—it simply makes their existing behavior easier to understand.

Whether you are debugging a broken machine, measuring signal loss, studying component behavior, or designing a large technical build, Redstone Inspector gives you the information you need directly where you need it.

Beta Release

Redstone Inspector is currently in beta. Core functionality is available, but visual presentation, performance, compatibility, and configuration options may continue to evolve.

Bug reports and feedback are especially helpful for:

  • Component detection
  • Signal accuracy
  • Display readability
  • Color customization
  • Activation behavior
  • Performance around large redstone builds

Compatibility

  • Minecraft Java Edition 26.2
  • Fabric Loader
  • Fabric API
  • Client-side utility mod
