Right-click the ground to place it. //sits flat like a carpet

Any mob or player who walks over it gets frozen + lightly damaged for 5 seconds, then it auto-releases.

Snare Trap (Regular)

A placeable trap item crafted from strings and a stick. When an entity walks over the placed trap it triggers instantly, dealing a base of 5F physical damage and applying a 5-second immobility hold (Slowness VII + jump suppression).

Can be upgraded using Spider Eyes or Poison Potions up to a maximum of 3/3 Poison levels. Each level adds +5F damage and +5 seconds of Poison effect on trigger, so a fully upgraded 3/3 snare poisons the target for 15 seconds total.

Crafting upgrades consume 1 Spider Eye per snare upgraded, or a Poison Potion to upgrade the entire held stack at once.

Upgraded Snare Trap (Enhanced)

A stronger trap crafted by combining 2 regular snare traps. When triggered it applies a 10-second immobility hold (Slowness VII + jump suppression) and delivers an Instant Damage burst 5f while 0/25.

Can be upgraded using Fermented Spider Eyes or Harming Potions up to a maximum of 25/25 damage levels. Each level adds +1F magic damage "too" the Instant Damage burst, scaling from 0F at 0/25 up to 25F at 25/25. The current damage level is shown in the item tooltip as Damage: X/25.

Crafting upgrades consume 1 Fermented Spider Eye per enhanced snare upgraded, Though a Harming Potion can be used to upgrade the entire stack at once.

NOTE: Potions upgrade the entire stack making it cheaper. 
Don't take potions out and put them back in on the same stack of potions. 
It will not count in the output. 
You will need to place them all in at once for all the added potions to count.
