What's new

1.2.0

New look

  • Every bird has new skins. Rebuilt on a shared feather kit: feather rows and scales, barring, lacing, pearls and shaft streaks, scaled legs and claws, webbed feet, combs and wattles, and chick down. All seven species and every breed, male, female and baby.
    • Chickens: red face, streaky hackles, laced Wyandotte, crisp barring on Barred Rock, green sheen on Australorp, orange-hackled game cocks.
    • Turkeys: scale-shaped bronze feathers, barred wings and tails with tip bands, blue-white heads with warts.
    • Ducks: a proper mallard drake (green head, white collar, chestnut breast, blue wing patch), buff-edged hens, red-faced Muscovy.
    • Geese, guinea fowl (one white dot per feather), peafowl (eyespots on the train, iridescent neck) and quail (shaft streaks, crowns, bibs).
  • Eggs and meat redrawn. Each egg has its own size, colour and speckles, and the eggs in a nest match them. Raw and cooked meat is drawn per species: whole roast birds, a big peafowl drumstick, a pair of tiny quail.

New animations

  • Every animation was redone. Birds glance around with their head tilted, thrust their head forward as they walk like a real chicken, peck in quick strikes, preen along a wing, squat to lay, rear up to attack, shiver to shake, and puff up to sit.
  • Tom turkeys have a strut break. Every so often (not often) a strutting tom stops, takes a few quick steps, lets his open fan down, drops his wings to his sides with the tips trailing, shudders his feathers ("spit and drum"), then pirouettes once and lifts the fan again. It happens during courtship and when showing off to hens.
  • Smoother fan transitions. A tail fan or train now opens and folds over about a second instead of snapping.
  • No more dropping tail mid-call. A gobbling tom and a screaming peacock keep their fan up during the call instead of snapping it down and back.

New option

  • birdsBuildNests (default true). Set it to false and hens no longer scrape out their own ground nests; a hen with a clutch waits, keeping her eggs, until a nest you placed is in reach.

Fixed

  • The peacock and turkey's tail no longer jerks down for a frame when it calls while displaying.
