What's new

v1.0.0 - Player Activity View for Minecraft 1.21.1

First stable release for Minecraft 1.21.1 / NeoForge 21.1.249. The 1.21.1 port graduates from beta after six beta builds.

See what other players are doing at a glance — typing, idling, browsing menus, crafting and more — shown live on their in-game model. This is a fork of WATUT (What Are They Up To) by Corosus: a ground-up rewrite and modernisation with no dependency on CoroUtil.

Features

  • Live screen mirror — a preview of the open menu is captured, cropped and shown as a small tilted panel held in front of the player, visible to nearby players. Works for the inventory, chests, crafting, furnaces, enchanting, anvils, beacons, brewing stands, dispensers, grindstones, hoppers, horses, looms, villager trading, command blocks and more.
  • Typing indicators — animated particles above the head plus an on-screen “is typing…” message when a player is in chat, writing a book, editing a sign or filling a command block.
  • Arm animations — players using a menu move their arms: pointing, clicking and the typing pose, which alternates anti-phase so one arm rises while the other falls.
  • Idle detection — a configurable timeout marks players idle, with an icon above their head and a marker in the tab list.
  • Inventory animations — item particles fly between a player and a container as items are transferred.
  • Privacy controls — every feature can be toggled client-side, and server owners can control what is broadcast through a server config that syncs to every client.

Fixes since 0.0.0-beta.1

  • The screen mirror rendered nothing at all: the particle-selection logic deferred drawing to a world-space renderer that had not been ported, and the suppression it left behind latched permanently because the mirror texture is never cleared.
  • The mirror was drawn upside down — glReadPixels returns the framebuffer bottom-row first, and Minecraft's GUI projection flips Y, so the sampled V had to be inverted.
  • The mirror jittered side to side forever once a player moved, because the particle tick never synced the previous position the renderer interpolates against.
  • Typing was never detected: the typed text was read as an empty string in every branch, so the typing state was never sent and the arms never moved.
  • Screen capture had a framebuffer feedback loop (a pass sampling the texture it was rendering into), which showed up as a smeared band across the top of the mirror.
  • The mirror crop ignored the actual panel, clipping rows off the top of the inventory and pushing wide panels outside the soft mask. It now crops to the real panel rectangle and the mask follows its shape, instead of shearing the top of the pause menu into an arch.
  • particleSizeScale was declared in the config but never read, so the size could not be changed at all. It now works, capped at 3× so the panel cannot fill the screen.
  • Particle sprites failed to bind silently, with nothing in the log; failures are now reported under player_activity_view/particles.

Requirements

MinecraftNeoForge
1.21.121.1.249+

Install on both the client and the server. Command: /player_activity_view reloadJSON.

Notes

The circular soft cut-off can be turned off by setting dynamicGuiSizeRadiusInPixelsToShow = -1 in the server config, which gives a rectangular crop.
Not affiliated with or endorsed by the original WATUT author. Independent codebase, no dependency on CoroUtil.
