# Plan v15
The biggest Plan update yet. Project worlds are now created the moment you enter them, your
inventory is crash-proof, and the settings book has been replaced by a menu that floats in front of you.
Still 100% server-side: players don't need to install anything.
**Requires** Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge 21.1.x. If you run Sable, it needs NeoForge 21.1.228 or newer.

## New
### Project worlds are created live
- No more 132 pre-made dimensions. Each project now has its own world, created the moment someone
enters it (usually 20 to 70 ms) with no restart.
- Empty project worlds save and unload on their own after a short time (60 seconds by default),
and load again when someone comes back. Everything you built is still there.
- A project's Nether and End are created the first time someone uses a portal in it.
- Server startup is much faster. In testing it went from about 54 seconds to about 2 seconds.
- Mods that do work for every dimension, like Sable and Create, now only see the projects actually
in use. Server performance no longer depends on how many projects exist.
### A real menu instead of the book
- Type `/plan` to open a menu that floats in front of you. Look at a button and click (left or right).
Walk away to close it. Inside a project, sneak + swap hands (F) also opens it.
- Only the player who opened a menu can see it or click it.
- It shows through blocks, so you can read and use it even if it ends up inside a wall. While you're
looking at it, clicks go to the menu and never break or place blocks. Look away and your clicks
work normally.
- Names, seeds and numbers are typed in a pop-up sign editor. It no longer places a real sign in the world.
### More things you can do
- **Create projects from the menu:** pick superflat or regular, name it, and choose superflat layers
(Classic, Tunneler's Dream, Redstone Ready or your own) or a seed, if the server allows it.
- **Manage project (owners):** world settings, members, set or reset the spawn point, rename and delete.
- **Players here:** see who else is in your project and teleport to them.
- **Each project keeps its own time and weather**, even after its world unloads or the server restarts.
- **Portals take you back to the portal you used**, not the project spawn.
- **For operators:** an "All projects" browser to visit or delete any project, a loaded-worlds counter,
and `/plan worlds` to see which project worlds are loaded.
- New command: `/plan setspawn`.

## Fixed
- **Creative items could end up in survival after a crash or a slow shutdown.** (Thanks to the player who
reported this.) Your survival inventory and the record that you're in a project are now saved together,
in your own player file. A crash can't separate them any more. If anything ever looks wrong, the project
items are removed and your survival items are never touched.
- **High server-thread use with Sable.** (Thanks to the player who reported this.) Sable was saving
sub-levels in every one of Plan's dimensions. Now only project worlds that are actually loaded exist.
Tested with Sable 2.0.3: project worlds with Sable sub-levels load, unload and save cleanly.
- Items, minecarts and mobs could go through a portal in a project world and come out in the real Nether,
carrying creative items with them. Nothing but players can cross now, and players are routed to the
project's own Nether or End.
- Teleport mods (waystones, warp items and similar) can no longer take a player out of a project.
- An item held on the cursor, or in the 2×2 crafting grid, could cross between worlds when entering or leaving.
- Mod slots that were empty when you entered a project (for example a backpack you put on inside) kept their
contents when you left. Leaving now restores exactly what you had before you entered.
- Curios cosmetic slots are now saved per project like the normal Curios slots.
- `/plan fill` accepted block data, which could be used to place a command block with a command already in it.
Block data and command, structure and jigsaw blocks are now refused.
- Any guest could permanently whitelist other players. Whitelisting is now owner-only, and guest invites
follow the project's guest-command settings.
- Text input (the sign editor) placed a real sign under the player, which could wipe a chest's contents.
It no longer touches the world.
- Going to a project's Nether or End rebuilt the obsidian landing pad every time, erasing builds there.
The pad is now only built when the landing spot isn't safe.
- Time and weather reset to noon whenever a project's world reloaded.

## Server settings
New options in `config/plan-server.toml`, also editable from the menu by operators:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `performance.maxLoadedWorlds` | 20 | Most project worlds loaded at once (0 = no limit). When full, the world that has been empty longest is unloaded to make room. |
| `performance.idleUnloadSeconds` | 60 | How long an empty project world stays loaded. |
| `performance.allowChunkLoaders` | off | When on, project worlds with chunk loaders keep running while empty and come back after a restart. When off, empty worlds always unload. |
| `compat.bannedItems` | see below | Items and blocks that are removed or refused inside project worlds. |
| `superflat.villages` | off | Generate villages in new superflat projects. |
`compat.bannedItems` covers things that connect to storage outside the project world. With creative mode they
could be used to move creative items into real storage. Banned by default: Ender Storage, Dimensional Storage,
the Functional Storage ender drawer, AE2 wireless terminals and quantum links, Refined Storage wireless and
network transmitters, Mekanism QIO and the quantum entangloporter, and Tom's Storage wireless terminals.
Add any similar item from your modpack.
**Changed defaults for new installs:** mob spawning in superflat projects is now off. A flat world at night fills
up with mobs that every loaded project has to process. Existing config files keep their current values.
**Removed:** `dimensionPoolNumber` and `parkIdleDimensions` (no longer needed).

## Upgrading from v14
Just replace the jar. On the first start, Plan upgrades everything automatically:
- every project's world is moved to its new folder, with everything you built kept;
- players who logged out inside a project come back exactly where they were, with their items;
- unused old dimension folders are moved to `plan_legacy_unused/` in the world folder. You can delete it once
you've checked your projects.
**Expected on the first start:** the log shows a `Failed to decode key ... plan:flat_0` error for each of the 132
old dimensions. That's the game dropping them, and it only happens once.
Projects that were archived (not loaded) in v14 keep everything built, but new terrain generated at their edges
may not line up exactly with the old terrain.

## Known issue
On NeoForge versions older than 21.1.235, the server process may not exit after `/stop` if settings were changed
while it was running. Everything is still saved first. This is a bug in the config library those NeoForge versions
ship with, and updating NeoForge fixes it.
