Homing pigeons are selectively bred for its ability to fly home over long distances! Messages were tied around the legs of the pigeon, who would then fly back to its original nest. Homing pigeons were employed all around the world well into the 21st century, though their use has largely diminished with the expansion of the internet.
Pigeons are friendly, but they're not tamable. Be sure to capture a few!
Receiving a pigeon delivery? Right-click the pigeon to retrieve your item.
Pigeons will patiently wait by their target until dismissed or assigned a return delivery job. Right-click with an empty hand or a deliverable item to send them back. Similar to receiving a delivery, right-click the pigeon to retrieve the item, if they carried one, and dismiss them from the return delivery.
Many carrier pigeons only carried messages one way, requiring manual transportation before they could complete another flight. However, some were trained by placing their food at stop, away from their nest (the other stop). These pigeons were able to cover round-trip flights up to 100 mi (160 km) twice a day!
Pack Makers:
Pigeon Meat
Just as edible as chicken (when cooked), and just as dangerous as chicken (raw). Hopefully, this one wasn't carrying your letter.
Many domestic pigeons are selectively bred and farmed for their meat. In fact, there are many commercial operations producing pigeon meat.
Name Tag
While holding a Pen or Quill, right-click a Name Tag to name it.
