Description

Peerless

Peerless lets you open a singleplayer world to friends with a short room code. You do not need to run a dedicated Minecraft server or configure port forwarding on your router.

Peerless is currently in beta. Back up important worlds before testing it.

Loader support

Peerless supports Fabric and NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1:

  • Fabric: Fabric Loader 0.15.11 or newer and Fabric API
  • NeoForge: NeoForge 21.1.235 or newer in the 21.1 branch

Both builds use the same Peerless network protocol and are designed to connect to each other. Everyone must use the same Peerless version. Other gameplay mods can still prevent a cross-loader connection.

Requirements

  • Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1
  • Java 21
  • 64-bit Windows
  • One supported setup:
    • Fabric Loader 0.15.11 or newer with Fabric API, or
    • NeoForge 21.1.235 or newer
  • The same Peerless version and compatible gameplay mods on every client
  • Internet access to the Peerless signaling service and public STUN services

Linux and macOS builds are planned. The current beta contains only the Windows x86-64 WebRTC library.

Hosting a world

  1. Enter a singleplayer world and open the pause menu.
  2. Select Peerless.
  3. Configure the game mode, cheats, or whitelist under Host settings.
  4. Create a room and send its code to up to three friends.

Joining a world

  1. Open Multiplayer.
  2. Select Join by room code.
  3. Enter the code shared by the host.

How the connection works

The signaling service exchanges temporary WebRTC setup messages. After that, Minecraft traffic travels directly between the host and each guest whenever their networks allow it.

Peer-to-peer networking exposes the network address information required to connect the players. The signaling service is also required while creating or finding a room. Existing Minecraft worlds remain stored on the host's computer.

Troubleshooting

  • Signaling server is unavailable: check your internet connection and try again later.
  • Room not found: check the code or ask the host to create a new room.
  • Version mismatch: install the same Minecraft and Peerless versions.
  • Login fails or freezes: check that both clients use compatible gameplay and networking mods.

Minecraft logs are stored in logs/latest.log. Remove account tokens and unrelated personal information before sharing a log.
