PCA Quests
Quests for Minecraft lessons: teachers set goals, students follow an on-screen checklist, and finishing pays coins, items and badges.
PCA Quests turns a lesson or a club session into a set of goals. A teacher makes a quest in game, such as "Build a shelter: gather 16 logs, place a door, then show a teacher", and every student gets it straight away, or just the ones you give it to. Students open their quest book with J, see what's left to do on a checklist at the side of the screen, and get a pop-up as each goal is ticked off. Finishing a quest gives its rewards and tells the class.
It was made by Pixel Creators Academy for teaching on Minecraft servers and works in any Forge 1.20.1 world or server.
What it's like to use
- The teacher opens the quest book, clicks + New quest and types Build a shelter. On the Goals page they add Collect 16 × any logs, Place 1 × any doors and a Teacher goal, "Show your shelter to a teacher". Rewards: 50p and the Builder badge. Save.
- Every student gets a chat message and the quest appears on the right of their screen: Collect 16 × any logs 3 / 16.
- Amy gathers wood. "Goal done!" pops up. She places a door, and the last goal is the teacher's check, so she clicks Ask a teacher to check.
- The teacher gets "Amy asks you to check Build a shelter [Approve]" in chat, has a look, and clicks Approve. Amy's quest is complete: 50p goes into her wallet, she gets the Builder badge, and the class sees "Amy finished the quest Build a shelter and earned the Builder badge!"
- Escape the manor needed Build a shelter first, so it unlocks for Amy now.
Features
Goals
| Goal | Example |
|---|---|
| Collect items (can be handed in when the quest finishes) | Collect 16 × any logs |
| Break blocks | Break 20 × Stone |
| Place blocks | Place 1 × any doors |
| Defeat mobs | Defeat 5 × Zombie |
| Craft items | Craft 1 × Crafting Table |
| Earn money (with PCA Currency) | Have £5 in your wallet |
| Reach a Quest Marker | Reach the end of the manor |
| Teacher checks it | Show your shelter to a teacher |
Items, blocks and mobs can be one thing (minecraft:oak_log) or a whole tag (#minecraft:logs), and Use held item fills them in for you. Any goal can have its own words, like "Find the hidden library".
Quest Markers
A Quest Marker is a thin gold pad. Give it a key (like manor_end) and a quest's Reach goal counts when a student:
- walks onto it: put one in the last room of an escape room or at the top of a parkour course,
- right-clicks it, or
- answers a question at it (with PCA Quiz), from any question bank.
Markers saved in a structure keep their settings, so they work inside PCA Puzzle rooms: finish the Manor Mystery is a marker in the last room. Each marker counts once per student. Command blocks can do the same with /quests trigger @p manor_end.
For students
- A quest book (J, or
/quests) with their quests, what's locked and why, what's done, and their badges. - An on-screen checklist for the quest they're on, with progress like 12 / 20.
- Pop-ups and sounds when a goal or quest is done.
- Works in adventure mode.
For teachers
- Make and edit quests in game, on two simple pages, or as JSON files in
config/pcaquests/quests/. - Every student or just some: quests can go to everyone automatically, or be given out with
/quests give. - Quest chains: "Needs first" makes a quest wait until others are done.
- Class progress: one screen showing every student's progress on a quest, with requests to check at the top and Approve and Reset buttons.
- Rewards: coins (PCA Currency), any items, a badge and a message.
- Every finished quest is written to the server log with a
[Quests]tag. - Badges from games: PCA Games can give badges for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, and other mods can give badges through
QuestsApi.
