PCA Puzzle Rooms
Thirteen new rooms for PCA Puzzle, built with Chipped blocks: a manor with a lever puzzle and a mine you have to dig through, and a school with a red light, green light playground, plus the ready-made "Manor Mystery" and "School Day" layouts.
PCA Puzzle Rooms is an add-on for PCA Puzzle. PCA Puzzle builds escape-room style puzzle dungeons from a layout file; this add-on gives it a whole manor's worth of new rooms to build with. They're decorated with blocks from Chipped, furnished with sofas, tables, desks and wardrobes if you have a furniture mod installed, and two of them are working puzzles rather than just a chest to find.
The original PCA Puzzle rooms are untouched: these are extra rooms you can mix into any layout.
What it's like to play
The included Manor Mystery layout plays like this:
- Players start in the Grand Foyer: a red rug, sofas round a coffee table, a welcome sign. One door is open; the other, to the Study, has a keyhole showing a Brass Key.
- Through the open door is the Dining Hall: a long table with ten chairs and a kitchen along one wall. Its chest has the Brass Key.
- The Study is lined with bookshelves, with two desks facing each other on a blue rug. Its chest has a Redstone Core, which opens the next door. A side door leads to the Bedchamber, with a double bed, wardrobes and a dressing table, and some Hearty Bread for the road.
- The Lever Hall is a puzzle. Five levers on the wall, each with a lamp above it, and a gate of heavy bars in front of the chest. A pattern of lit and dark lamps on the opposite wall shows what to do: flip the levers until the lamps match, and with a click the gate opens. The chest has a Map Shard.
- The Deep Mine has timber supports, a cart track and ore in the walls. The chest by the door holds a Prospector's Pick, and a sign points to a wall of Loose Rock. Dig through it to find a hidden chamber with the Portal Shard.
- The Portal Shard opens the Treasury: piles of gold, an emerald block, a treasure chest and a sign saying well done.
It takes a group through searching, sharing items, a logic puzzle and a bit of digging, and every step works in adventure mode, so students can't break their way past anything.
Features
Seven new rooms
| Room | Size | What's in it |
|---|---|---|
| Grand Foyer | 20×15 | Start room. Rug, sofas, coffee table, sideboards, plants, welcome sign. Chest: Everburning Torch |
| Dining Hall | 20×15 | Long dining table with ten chairs, kitchen counters, cabinets, smoker. Chest: Brass Key |
| Study | 20×20 | Walls of Chipped bookshelves, two desks, a reading corner with a sofa. Chest: Redstone Core |
| Bedchamber | 15×15 | Double bed, bedside tables, lamp, wardrobes, dressing table. Chest: Hearty Bread |
| Lever Hall | 20×15 | Working lever puzzle. Chest behind the gate: Map Shard |
| Deep Mine | 25×15 | Working digging puzzle. Tool chest: Prospector's Pick. Hidden chest: Portal Shard |
| Treasury | 15×15 | Finish room. The chest has treasure such as gold, emeralds and sometimes a diamond or golden apple |
Every room uses PCA Puzzle's 5-block grid and doorway positions, so it fits straight into the layout builder like the castle rooms. Each chest has its own themed loot (food in the dining hall, books and paper in the study, redstone in the lever hall, raw ore in the mine), and with Lootr every player gets their own copy.
Six school rooms (new in 0.2.0)
| Room | Size | What's in it |
|---|---|---|
| Classroom | 20×15 | Rows of desks facing the board ("Today: times tables"), the teacher's desk, bookshelves. Chest: Brass Key |
| Detention | 15×10 | Single desks facing the wall, a "No talking!" sign and a watchful teacher's desk. Chest: Map Shard |
| Staff Room | 15×15 | Sofas, a kitchen, a marking table and a STAFF ONLY sign. Chest: Redstone Core |
| Head Teacher's Office | 15×10 | Finish room: the head's big desk, bookshelves, trophies and treasure |
| Playground | 15×35 | Red light, green light across the playground, with hopscotch and trees |
| Sports Hall | 20×40 | A longer, wider red light, green light course across the court |
The classroom, detention, staff room and head's office are mostly furniture, so they need a furniture mod: without one, PCA Puzzle refuses to build them and says why, instead of leaving empty rooms. The Playground and Sports Hall need PCA Games: a watcher at the far end starts by itself as soon as someone walks in, and anyone caught moving goes back to the start. Past the watcher, the exit is an iron door that only opens from inside, so nobody can come back the wrong way. A new example layout, School Day, uses all six.
Working puzzle rooms
Lever Hall: five levers, five lamps and a pattern to copy. The levers are on special sockets that each want their lever either on or off. They look identical, so the only way to solve it is to read the clue. When every lever is right, the Puzzle Gate disappears and stays open.
Deep Mine: the Prospector's Pick breaks Loose Rock and nothing else, and it works in adventure mode. No other tool can break Loose Rock, so players have to find the pick first, then dig the right wall.
Furniture from the mod you already have
The rooms contain furniture spots that turn into real furniture when the room is built:
- McCaw's Furniture if it's installed,
- otherwise MrCrayfish's Furniture Mod (Refurbished, or the classic version),
- otherwise no furniture: the rooms are still complete and playable without it.
Chairs, sofas, tables, desks, drawers, wardrobes and kitchen counters are included, plus lamps with MrCrayfish's. A config option picks one furniture mod or turns furniture off, and a small file in the config folder lets you change which block each piece becomes.
Build your own puzzles
The puzzle blocks are in their own creative tab, so teachers can build lever and digging puzzles into their own rooms:
- Lever Socket (wants ON / wants OFF): put a lever on it
- Puzzle Gate: disappears when the puzzle is solved
- Lever Lock: hide it under the floor; it watches the sockets and opens the gates within 16 blocks
- Loose Rock and the Prospector's Pick
Coins in the chests
With PCA Currency installed, the chests can contain a few coins, and the Treasury's can contain 50p, £1 and £2 coins.

Standalone
PCA Puzzle Rooms doesn't need the Pixel Creators Academy server or any PCA service. It needs PCA Puzzle and Chipped, and works in any Forge 1.20.1 world, server or modpack that has them.
Getting started
- Install PCA Puzzle (0.3.5+), Chipped and this mod, plus a furniture mod if you like, and start the world once. The example layout
example_manor_mystery.jsonis added toconfig/pcapuzzle/layouts/. - In a creative world with cheats on, stand somewhere open and flat (the manor is 75×60 blocks) and run:
/puzzle build example_manor_mystery - Switch to adventure mode and play it through. Reset it with
/puzzle clear example_manor_mystery. - With a furniture mod and PCA Games installed, try the school too:
/puzzle build example_school_day(70×75).
To use a room in your own layout, set its file to pcapuzzlerooms:room_name, for example "file": "pcapuzzlerooms:deep_mine". Lock a door with "Deep mine key" and it opens with whatever that room's chest gives.
