Pareidolia 2.0: The Mindbreaker Update

Pareidolia is not a standard horror mod. There are no cheap jumpscares, no overpowered monsters chasing you, and no immediate threats. Instead, this mod is designed to slowly, methodically, and maliciously break your psyche.

It introduces a psychological horror experience that preys on your paranoia, isolation, and the feeling that something is just… wrong.

With Version 2.0, the entire mod has been rewritten. It no longer relies on random chance. Instead, you are being watched by an AI Event Director that learns your behavior, tracks your fears, and actively works against your expectations.

The Three Rules of Pareidolia

You should never know if something actually happened. Every anomaly is so subtle that you might just blame it on Vanilla Minecraft.
Never overuse anything. The AI learns what you have seen. Nothing repeats predictably.
Silence is scarier than action. The Event Director will sometimes do absolutely nothing for hours, letting your own paranoia do the work, only to strike when you feel safe.

🧠 The Event Director AI (NEW)

A central intelligence that monitors 50+ environmental metrics (light, depth, isolation, weather) and builds a Psychological Profile of you across sessions. It tracks if you look behind you too often, if you fear caves, or if you panic—and uses this data to break your comfort zones.

👣 Acoustic Paranoia & Micro Events (68+ Events)

The silence is broken. You will hear your own footsteps echoing a few seconds after you stop walking. Distant blocks breaking, faint eerie ambient noises, whispers in the dark, a single knock on wood, or the infamous sound of a Creeper hissing—only to cut off right before the explosion.

👁️ The Skinwalker & Doppelgänger

You are not alone. A pitch-black, shadowy silhouette of your own character—or the Skinwalker, mimicking the skin of another player currently on the server with glowing white eyes—will occasionally spawn at the edge of your vision. It will slowly walk toward you, but the moment you look directly at it, it fades into thin air with a faint hiss.

🕯️ Architectural Gaslighting

Did you place that block there? The mod subtly manipulates the world behind your back. Placed blocks may rotate, change variants (e.g., Cobblestone to Mossy Cobblestone), or slightly shift positions. You will constantly question your own memory.

🐕 Alienation of the Familiar

The things that make you feel safe will turn against you.

Emotional Betrayal: Your loyal tamed wolves and cats may subtly growl at you when your back is turned. If you play long enough, they might even silently un-tame themselves, abandoning you in the dark. Animals in the wild might suddenly freeze, all staring at a single empty point in the distance.
Torch Corruption: Your placed torches deep in the caves will occasionally burn with a cold, white light before fizzling out completely.
Nametag Glitches: Your pets' nametags will flicker and disappear, making you feel completely isolated.

🌑 Non-Euclidean Isolation (The Endless Tunnel)

Strip mining is no longer safe. If you dig in a straight line for too long, the game may trigger a seamless "Spatial Fold". You will be rotated 180 degrees without the camera moving. You'll think you are digging forward, but you are actually walking back through your own empty tunnel in an endless loop.

🕳️ Sensory Deprivation (The Void Pocket)

Deep underground, you may step into a Void Pocket. The world goes pitch black. If you panic and try to place a torch or lantern, it will be instantly destroyed with a terrifying hiss. You must survive the darkness until it passes.

🎒 Inventory Hallucinations

Did you really bring enough food? Your inventory slots will temporarily glitch, displaying the wrong items or incorrect stack sizes. The items are still there, but your mind is playing tricks on you.

🌌 Impossible & Legendary Events (NEW)

Reality-breaking moments for those who survive long enough. Gravity pulses deep underground, time subtly skipping forward, your Doppelgänger perfectly retracing a path you walked earlier, or the stars suddenly vanishing from the night sky.

🎬 Client-Side Perception Engine (NEW)

Subtle screen effects that you can barely perceive: micro FOV shifts, slight color desaturation, and dynamic tension audio (deep bass drones) that increase with your stress levels.

Configuration & Multiplayer

Pareidolia is highly configurable and built for both Singleplayer and Multiplayer! Works perfectly in Multiplayer. The AI builds a unique psychological profile for each individual player. You can go insane while your friend sees absolutely nothing.

Singleplayer: A custom Pareidolia button on the Main Menu allows you to configure the global intensity of the horror and set a "Grace Period" (days before the horror begins). The horror naturally escalates over time, capping around day 30 for maximum psychological dread.
Multiplayer / Server Admins: Use the /pareidolia command in-game to tweak settings on the fly without restarting the server. (e.g., /pareidolia set globalIntensity 2.0).
