What's new

Outbreak 1.0.2

Requires Minecraft 26.3 (or a 26.3.x hotfix) and NeoForge 26.3.0.95 or newer. Install it on the client and the server.

Your 1.0.1 worlds carry on, so there's no need to start a new one. Back up first: if you ever open the world in 1.0.1 again, it deletes the new gun parts for good. Update the server and every player's game: they all need this version.

New: gun parts and the Armorer

  • Ten parts in five slots: optic, muzzle, magazine, barrel and stock. New are the reflex sight, muzzle brake, rifle barrel, carbine barrel, marksman barrel, rifle stock and makeshift stock. They change how a gun handles, never its damage or range.
  • What fits what: the assault rifle takes every part, and must always keep a barrel. The pistol and submachine gun take a suppressor and extended magazine, the hunting rifle a scope and suppressor. The revolver and shotgun take nothing.
  • The Armorer: press the new button on a weapon bench. Put a gun in the slot, then fit, swap and take off parts, and point at one first to see the numbers before and after. Parts come back as items. If they won't fit in your inventory, it refuses and nothing changes.
  • Fitting by hand still works: right-click a part onto a gun in your inventory. It only fills empty slots.
  • Extended magazines: taking one off hands back the rounds the gun can no longer hold. 44 rounds in an assault rifle becomes 30 in the gun and 14 loose.
  • Parts show on the assault rifle in your hands. The other guns keep the same model, and every gun keeps its flat icon in the inventory.
  • Parts have weight: a scope adds 0.4 kg, and a carbine barrel makes a rifle 0.3 kg lighter. Fitting or swapping a part doesn't change the total you carry.

Finding and making parts

  • Weapon bench: muzzle brake (metal pipe, 3 scrap, duct tape), rifle stock (metal pipe, 4 scrap, 2 duct tape), makeshift stock (3 planks, 2 duct tape, 4 nails). The suppressor's recipe is unchanged.
  • Military crates: reflex sight, muzzle brake, all three barrels and the rifle stock, alongside the scope, suppressor and extended magazine. Elites and the Alpha can drop them too.
  • Police lockers: sometimes a reflex sight.
  • Found assault rifles now vary: 70% standard, 12% with a carbine barrel, 8% with a marksman barrel, 10% with no stock. Strip them for parts.

Changed

  • A new start anywhere: your first arrival is now a random safe spot anywhere within about 770 blocks of the world spawn, wilderness included. Dying without a bed still wakes you on a town road, and players already in a world aren't moved.
  • Guns in 3D: every gun has a blocky 3D model in your hands, in first and third person.
  • Noise draws hordes: gunshots, explosions, running engines and alarms leave heat where they happened. Heat makes roaming hordes form more often, and once there's enough, a horde heads for the hottest spot, with a warning that it's coming. A suppressor leaves under a third of the heat. The numbers are first guesses.
  • Loot: other items in military crates are a little rarer, to make room for parts.

Fixed

  • A fire in the middle of the screen when you shoot: each shot's flame and smoke stood right under the crosshair and over whatever you were aiming at. They now appear at the gun's muzzle.
  • The view jumping when you fire: on the pistol, revolver, shotgun and hunting rifle the kick landed in a single frame. It now eases over a moment, like the automatic guns. The kick is the same size, and bullets still go where the crosshair was when you fired.
  • Cars crashing for no reason: on flat, empty ground a car could crash, destroying it and hurting or killing the driver, worst on servers. It now takes a real collision, with a wall, another vehicle or a mob. Driving past a zombie doesn't count.
  • Convoys: they no longer pile up extra trucks, appear right beside you, or stand off in the grass: trucks are in the middle of the road now. Their zombies also wait for you instead of despawning before you get there.
  • Supply drops: they look for firm open ground and stay off buildings, and the radio calls them off if there's nowhere to land.
  • Zombies that hear a noise while falling now walk to it once they land, instead of ignoring it for good.
  • Rare crash while new land generates: "Accessing LegacyRandomSource from multiple threads".
  • Guns jumping when fired: the gun dropped out of view and popped back up after every shot. It now stays steady, apart from its own recoil.
  • Elites piling up: elites never despawned, so they built up wherever players went. New elites now despawn like other zombies; the bunker's guard and the Alpha still stay put.
  • Rounds vanishing in creative: reloading with no room in your inventory deleted the rounds that came back. They now land on the ground.

Worth knowing

  • Real crashes hurt more: crashes now read your true speed, so a flat-out hit does more than it did. The damage formula itself hasn't changed. Nobody has balanced this by playing yet, so tell me how it feels.
  • A hard crash can lose a gun left in the Armorer: closing the screen, logging out, dying and a clean server stop all give it back, and were all tested. If the server is killed outright or loses power after the world has saved with a gun in the Armorer's slot, that gun is gone.

For server owners

  • New settings: randomFirstArrival in [start]; noiseDrawsHordes, heatHalfLifeMinutes and heatMaxHordeMultiplier in [hordes]. Gun parts have no settings.
  • New admin command: /outbreak heat shows the heat around you and the hottest spots.
  • Going back to 1.0.1: it deletes the seven new part items for good, and guns lose their barrel, stock, muzzle brake and reflex sight choices, though they keep their rounds, condition, scope, suppressor and extended magazine. Back up before updating and restore the backup rather than downgrading.
