What's new
The three bugs
Hell entrance. A lit Altar routed every click into the labyrinth letter puzzle and never took Essence of Faith again, and my own book told people to light it. AltarBlock.use now checks for essence in the main hand first, on any altar in any state; flint and steel is only for the six puzzle altars in the Head Altar, which ship blank and depend on cycling from zero. The Altar has a recipe now (Piece of Faith, gold, polished blackstone), so it can be built anywhere in survival or creative and the rift works from any dimension. The Head Altar structure went from 3 biomes at spacing 80 to 8 biomes at 36, but honestly: on the regression seed it still locates 1,264 blocks from the origin, because it's confined to the waste biomes and biome coverage beats spacing. The recipe is what actually fixes the way down.
Compass. "Halls and altars" was six structure types, so every press re-searched from wherever you stood and the needle swung to whichever was nearest now. That is the "randomly changing values." It locks on what it finds until you arrive; using it again just repeats the distance. Five settings now, with the way down (Head Altar only) on its own. It names the building it found. Mode changes are mirrored on the client so creative-mode inventory sync can't flicker them back.
Villages. 6 of 33 surface biomes at spacing 38 (vanilla is 34). Now 14 biomes at 22. Nearest village on the regression seed: 112 blocks from origin.
Density: 26 structures → 33
- Two churches, Vesper Chapel and Dusk Oratory, were designed and previewed in
gen_churches.pylast month and never saved. Shipped, with a Vesper Priest bound to each. - Five new landmarks built in code: wayside cross (every 10 chunks, all biomes), icon shrine (scripture in the chest), hermit's cell (a Hesychast bound to it, so the fork road has a place to start), graveyard (Vesper Shades at night, a chest in the open grave), pilgrim camp (Pilgrims at the fire).
- Existing small landmarks widened: waystones 11→33 biomes, wells 4→20, shrines 2→6, spires 3→10, temples 5→10.
Mobs. Chunk-population probability 0.15→0.22 on every surface biome, and the thin biomes (mountains, wastes, river beds, weights 8–19) got the beasts the Typikon says live there. Pilgrims walk the roads in 16 biomes.
Purpose. A ledger: one Next: line in chat on login and on crossing over, computed from state the mod already keeps (books read, bound, chrismated, unmasked, answered), spoken only when the step changes. First crossing also hands you an Altar Compass already pointing at the nearest village.
Books and the CurseForge page corrected for all of it. 91/91 on the live server, including locate-and-generate for the new structures. Built 1.82.0, installed, ba08309. Not pushed, not released.
One thing I caught in my own work: "the altar has a recipe" passed on "No player was found," because recipe give @a resolves the selector before the id. The v1.79 recipe check had the same hole. Both are strict file checks now, labelled (static).
