Description
OreMixer
Bigger, rarer ore veins where every vein holds two ores, and some blocks are Mixed Ores that drop both.
Dig into a vein of coal and find iron mixed in. Strike a Gold + Copper block and get both. OreMixer changes how ores generate, and it works with ores from other mods without any setup.
What it does
Bigger and rarer veins
Every ore vein is 2× bigger and 2× rarer. Fewer, larger deposits that are more exciting to find. Both numbers are configurable.
Two ores in every vein
Each vein gets a partner ore. The vein is a mix of the main ore, the partner ore, and Mixed Ore blocks (30% by default, more common in the core of the vein, so it pays off to dig to the middle).
Partners are chosen by geology, not at random: coal comes with iron, copper with gold, redstone with diamond and so on. Partners always match the rock: deepslate ores mix with deepslate ores, Nether ores with Nether ores.
Mixed Ore blocks
A Mixed Ore looks like the main ore with speckles of the second one on top, and its name is built from both ores: Gold + Copper.
- Drops both ores, and gives the experience of both.
- Fortune works at full level on the main ore and at half level (rounded down) on the second. Fortune VI gives Fortune III on the second ore.
- Silk Touch drops the Mixed Ore block itself.
- Your pickaxe must be able to mine both ores to get both drops, and mining speed follows the harder one.
Works with other mods
Ores are found through the c:ores tag and, as a fallback, by the _ore name. Any mod that places its ore veins the standard way is changed the same as vanilla ores, and its textures and names are used automatically. The mixed texture is built at load time from the ore's own texture, so even new ores look right.
In-game settings
Open Mods → OreMixer → Config, or type /oremixer.
- General: vein size, how many veins are skipped, how many veins get a partner, chance of Mixed Ore blocks, core boost.
- Combinations: create your own pairs, choose partner weights and give any combination your own name.
- Found ores: every ore the mod found, with the mod it comes from. Switch ores off, or mark them as rare so they are never chosen as a random partner.
On a server, only operators can change settings, and the server syncs them to everyone.
Recipe viewers and Create
- JEI and EMI: every pair is listed separately, with a description of how it drops.
- Create: a Mixed Ore in a Crushing Wheel gives the results of both ores. OreMixer merges the crushing recipes of the two ores automatically. The list of recipe types to merge is in the config (
mergedRecipeTypes) and defaults tocreate:crushing.
Good to know
- Changes apply to newly generated chunks only. Explore new terrain, or create a new world.
- The mod is required on both the client and the server.
- Settings are saved in
config/oremixer.json. - Overall there is roughly 30% more ore in the world than in vanilla with default settings. Lower the vein size or the Mixed Ore chance if that is too much.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.1
- NeoForge 21.1.x
- Optional: JEI, EMI, Create
FAQ
Can I use it in a modpack? Yes, on CurseForge and Modrinth. See the license.
Will it work on an existing world? Yes. Only new chunks get the new ores.
A modded ore doesn't mix. Make sure it is not switched off on the Found ores tab, and that the mod places it with the standard ore feature.
