Ore Bushes

Ore Bushes is a Minecraft mod that turns resource gathering into gardening. It adds 23 unique resource-bearing plants — one for nearly every ore and rare resource — that you plant, grow, and right-click to harvest.

Grow your own treasure.

“Why mine when you can just shake a bush?” — a very lazy, very rich farmer

🌱 What is this mod?

Ore Bushes adds a whole garden of resource-bearing plants to Minecraft. Plant a starter, tend it through four growth stages, and right-click a ripe bush to harvest real loot — from humble coal to a genuine diamond or an almost mythical netherite.

Every bush is a hand-built 3D model with its own silhouette, pixel-art materials, sparkling particles, and an original little harvest plink. No two bushes look or feel the same. Your pickaxe is officially on vacation.

  • 23 unique plants across the Overworld, Nether, and End.
  • Four growth stages (rooted → juvenile → budding → ripe) plus a spent state.
  • Finite, honest yields — every plant wears out eventually, so it never trivially replaces mining.
  • Rare wild spawns — the rarer the resource, the rarer the bush.
  • An automation machine — the Ore Harvester — for when your green thumb gets tired.

🌿 How bushes work

1. Find or plant one

Bushes can be discovered naturally — but very rarely — growing in the wild. Wild bushes always start ripe, so a rare find can be harvested right away. The reliable way to grow your collection is to plant a starter seed on the right block, in the right dimension, and let it mature.

2. Watch it grow

A planted bush advances one stage at a time: rooted → juvenile → budding → ripe. Growth only happens when the conditions are right:

  • Correct dimension — Overworld, Nether, or End.
  • Correct substrate — grass, farmland, moss, deepslate, amethyst, sculk, netherrack, soul soil, basalt, magma, end stone, purpur, or obsidian (see the tables below).
  • Correct depth for a few fussy plants (diamond, echo shard, netherite, ancient debris).
  • Optional light — only if the server enables that rule.

Higher tiers grow more slowly. There is no real-time cooldown; it is a per-random-tick chance, so impatient farmers should bring a book, a snack, or a faster world.

3. Harvest the good stuff

Right-click a ripe (age 3) bush to harvest. Here's the twist that keeps things balanced:

  • The bush stays ripe — no waiting to regrow between harvests.
  • Every harvest permanently ticks up its lifetime counter.
  • When the counter runs out, the plant becomes spent: no more drops, no more particles, no more luck. Time to plant a new one.
  • Breaking a plant always returns a starter seed, at any age, so you can relocate your garden freely. Breaking a ripe, non-spent plant also drops one resource.

4. Help it along (a little)

  • Bone meal only helps tier 1 plants, and only when their growing conditions are valid.
  • Fortune can add a little extra on lower tiers — but it can never inflate the rare tier 3–4 resources.
  • Some plants give you a small bonus effect when harvested by hand (see the traits table).

Bushes are walk-through

They gently slow you down when you brush through them, but you won't get stuck on invisible cubes. They're plants, not walls.

⭐ Tiers at a glance

Every plant belongs to a tier. Higher tier = rarer resource, fewer lifetime harvests, slower growth. Tier 1–2 plants can occasionally yield a couple of resources per harvest (capped at 3); tier 3–4 always give exactly 1, because a diamond does not come in a buy-one-get-one bundle.

Tier Lifetime harvests (default) Growth speed Typical plants
⭐ Tier 1 15 Fastest Coal, copper, sugar
⭐⭐ Tier 2 10 Brisk Iron, gold, redstone, lapis, amethyst, quartz, glowstone, chorus fruit
⭐⭐⭐ Tier 3 6 Slow Emerald, diamond, XP, blaze, ender pearl
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tier 4 4 Slowest Netherite, ancient debris, echo shard, golden apple, ender eye, shulker shell, dragon breath

All harvest limits are configurable (capped at 15). Talk to your server owner if 4 feels criminal.

🌍 The Overworld collection (13 plants)

✨ Special plant traits

Some plants are show-offs. Here's what makes them special:

Plant Trait
Pulse Vine Glows at light level 4 when ripe
Chiming Cluster Glows at light level 4 when ripe
Insight Cap Glows at light level 4 when ripe; hand-harvest grants 10 seconds of Night Vision
Lantern Bloom Glows at light level 8 when ripe
Ember Antler Glows at light level 8 when ripe
Dragon Chalice Glows at light level 6 when ripe
Aureate Bonsai Hand-harvest grants 3 seconds of Regeneration

Handy for lighting a base by farming. Yes, that's allowed. No, we won't tell the torch.

🤖 The Ore Harvester

When hand-harvesting 23 bushes becomes a full-time job, build the Ore Harvester: a chunky steel-and-bronze machine that automatically harvests ripe plants in a configurable radius around itself. It respects every lifetime limit, so it can't milk a bush forever either.

Machine states

State Indicator What it means
Idle 🔵 Blue Waiting for its next harvest interval, or no ripe plants in range
Running 🟢 Green Successful harvest — spinning cutter, sparks, radius pulse and light for 2 seconds
Blocked 🔴 Red Its storage and the inventory above are full; the shutter closes
Paused 🟠 Amber An adjacent redstone signal pauses it and resets the timer

Storage & handling

  • 36 internal storage slots (4 rows of 9), plus your inventory in the machine's screen.
  • It fills its own storage first, and only pushes overflow into a container directly above — so a chest on top is optional.
  • Hoppers and pipes can extract from any side, but cannot insert. The machine is a giver, not a taker.
  • While working, particles trace only the perimeter of its active harvesting square, so you can see exactly what it covers.

Upgrades (place blocks below the machine)

Block below Effect Default
Diamond block Speed (seconds per harvest) & deeper range 1s speed style / radius 8 via block two below
Gold block Speed & range 20s / radius 4
Iron block Speed & range 30s / radius 3
Nothing Base speed & range 40s / radius 2

Tip: a block one below the machine changes speed; a block two below changes range. Go on, make a diamond-block throne for it. It has earned it.

⚙️ Server-friendly configuration

Everything important is tweakable without touching the code:

Setting Default What it does
enableBonemeal True Allow bone meal to speed up tier 1 plants
enableFortuneBonus True Let Fortune add a little extra on lower tiers
enableVillagerTrades True Let farmers and wandering traders offer bush starters
enableComposting True Allow bush starters in a composter
growthChancePercent 100 Per-random-tick chance to advance a stage
requireLight / minLight False / 9 Optionally require a light level to grow
amountMultiplier 1.0 Multiplies hand and machine harvest drops
matureBonus 1 Extra items from a fully grown bush
harvestsTier1–4 15 / 10 / 6 / 4 Lifetime harvests per tier
Harvester speed & range See machine section Seconds per harvest and radius per upgrade block

Mining is overrated. Let nature do the heavy lifting — one bush at a time.
