Orbital Strike — Changelog 1.2.0
Minecraft 26.1.2 · Fabric
1.2.0
Added
- Lead: a new ore, as rare as gold (same veins and depths, from y 32 down to the bottom of the world), in stone and deepslate. It needs an iron pickaxe or better and drops Raw Lead (Fortune works, Silk Touch keeps the ore).
- Raw Lead smelts into Lead Ingots (furnace or blast furnace).
- Block of Lead: 9 Lead Ingots, and back.
- Hazmat Fabric: String + Leather (gives 2).
- Activated Charcoal: 4 Coal or Charcoal + 1 Potassium Hydroxide (gives 4), the real chemical activation process.
- Air Filter: Activated Charcoal packed in Wool, in a Leather casing.
Changed
- New hazmat suit recipes, built from the new materials:
- Helmet: Fabric, Lead, Air Filters and Glass.
- Suit: Fabric, Lead and an Air Filter.
- Trousers and Boots: Fabric and Lead.
- The hazmat suit is now repaired with Hazmat Fabric instead of leather.
1.1.10
Changed
- New textures for the 9 charred logs.
- Hazmat suit pieces now have 3D icons in the inventory and in the hand.
- Geiger counter in first person: the counter now sits in the palm, closer to the player, with its screen tilted towards your eyes.
Fixed
- Geiger counter in first person: the hand and the counter are now one piece and move together (walking, equipping, swinging the arm, reading gesture). Before, the counter could drift away from the hand.
1.1.9
Added
- Charred logs, one for each overworld wood (oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove, cherry, pale oak): scorched wood made of charcoal, ash and glowing embers. Breaking one drops 2 to 4 Ashes and sometimes a piece of coal (Silk Touch keeps the block).
- The blast now chars part of the trees in the fallout area, standing trunks and felled trunks alike: often near the shaft, rarely at the edge of the dead forest.
- First person: wearing the hazmat suit now shows its yellow sleeve and black glove on your arm.
- Geiger counter reading gesture: right click now brings the counter up in front of your eyes, screen tilted towards you, then lowers it back.
Fixed
- Right-clicking the Geiger counter no longer plays the vanilla arm swing, which threw the counter out of the hand.
1.1.8
Added
- Hazmat suit (helmet, suit, trousers, boots) with its own 3D model: visor, gas-mask filters, belt and oxygen tanks. No extra mod is needed.
- Shields from radiation much better than iodine: a full suit blocks 95% of the dose (helmet 29%, suit 33%, trousers 19%, boots 14%). It gives no potion effect, and it stacks with iodine tablets.
- Durability: it wears out from mob hits and falls like regular armour (falls included), and much more slowly from the radiation it stops.
- Light physical protection (rubber suit); repaired with leather. Crafted from leather, slime balls, a glass pane (visor) and an iron ingot (suit).
- Ash storm sky: during the radioactive ash fall, the sky turns ash grey under a low, dark cloud ceiling.
- Grey haze during the ash fall: the view distance shrinks (you can still see at least 50 blocks), with a grey fog colour.
- First person: a hand now holds the Geiger counter.
Changed
- The ash fall is much denser, with large grey flakes.
- Ash no longer appears all at once after a strike: the ash fall deposits it layer by layer over time (up to 3 layers near the shaft, 1 at the edge), on the first surface met from the sky, so nothing piles up indoors.
- Radiation gauge: the icons now appear one by one as the dose rises, with no empty slots.
- Radiation dose: still decays slowly outside fallout zones, and 3 times faster when swimming in clean (non-irradiated) water.
- First person: the support hand now really sits under the designator's barrel.
Fixed
- The Geiger counter was held the wrong way round in first person: its screen now faces the player.
1.1.7
Added
- Real gunshot when firing the designator: a heavy layered report, a white-hot targeting bolt from the muzzle to the target, a muzzle flash, an impact spark and a camera kick. Nearby players see the shot too.
- Radioactive ash fall: for 2 Minecraft days after a strike, grey and dark ash (with rare green glints) falls around the fallout zone, under a faint overcast. Nothing falls indoors.
- Very light radiation sickness: once radiation starts dealing damage, the view sways gently (much softer than vanilla Nausea).
- Medicine sounds: iodine tablets rattle and are swallowed; the RadAway drips and its vial empties.
- Breaking ash layers now drops Ashes (one per layer).
- Dead leaves can be collected with shears (or Silk Touch); by hand they sometimes drop a stick.
- Trees knocked down by the blast can now also fall diagonally.
Changed
- New 3D models: Barrel, Receiver Body, Stock, Energy Magazine, Scope, Geiger Counter and Iodine Tablets.
- New textures: Lye Solution, Ashes and Potassium Hydroxide.
- The Ashen Grass top is now randomly rotated, so large areas no longer look repetitive.
- The Geiger Counter only shows a qualitative level (Background, Low, Moderate, High, EXTREME), no exact figures.
- Smoother light effects: slower, calmer energy flow in the beams and lasers, no more fast flicker, and the ground rings no longer shimmer.
- First person: the support hand now rests on the front of the designator.
- Firing no longer plays the vanilla arm swing: the weapon only plays its own recoil.
1.1.6
Changed
- The RadAway now has a 3D model (an IV bag with its tube and nozzle) instead of a flat icon.
- In third person, the RadAway hangs from the player's hand by its hook.
1.1.5
Fixed
- Third person: the support hand now always grips the barrel, whatever the aiming angle.
Changed
- First person: the designator is held with both hands (the second hand grips the handguard and follows the recoil) and sits more centred on screen.
- The designator's 15 s recharge now only starts once the orbital beam ends: no more overlapping strikes. If the strike is cancelled, the designator is released.
- New Ashen Grass texture.
Added
- Anti-radiation chemistry, based on the historical process:
- Ashes: logs on a campfire, or charcoal in a furnace.
- Lye Solution: Ashes + Water Bucket (the empty bucket is returned).
- Potassium Hydroxide: Lye Solution + Calcite.
- Iodine Tablets (x3): Potassium Hydroxide + Dried Kelp.
- Iodine Tablets: 5 minutes of Radiation Resistance; radiation builds up 4 times slower.
- RadAway: Iodine Tablet + Healing Potion + Golden Carrot + Glass Bottle. Removes 60% of the radiation dose, gives 10 s of Nausea and returns the glass bottle.
1.1.4
Changed
- Two-handed rifle stance in third person: the Orbital Strike Designator is shouldered, with the shooting hand on the grip and the other hand under the barrel.
- The arms and the weapon follow the player's head, so you can see where they are aiming.
1.1.3
Fixed
- The Orbital Strike Designator is no longer held backwards: it now points forward in first person.
- Removed the untouched ring between the edge of the chasm and the fallout zone: the blast now affects the terrain right up to the rim.
- Ash no longer appears floating in the air: it settles on the real ground, never on foliage or tree trunks.
Changed
- New radiation icons for the gauge.
- Steady warning pulse every 2 seconds during the countdown.
- Stronger impact: several sounds are now layered (blast, heavy ground strike, sonic boom) for more presence without being deafening.
- The dead-forest radius is doubled.
- Trees right next to the chasm are vaporised; further out, they are knocked flat on the ground.
- Less dense ash, with thin layers (2 at most).
Added
- Each targeting laser now plays its own sound when it deploys.
- New Ashen Grass block: replaces grass blocks across the fallout zone. Drops dirt (or itself with Silk Touch).
- Ash cap: repeated strikes no longer pile ash on top of existing ash.
1.1.2
Changed
- Redesigned radiation gauge: 10 radiation icons (full, half, empty) above the hunger bar, filling up like the health and hunger bars. Each icon is 10% of the maximum dose.
- Past 2/3 of the gauge (when damage starts), the icons tremble, faster as the dose rises.
- The Geiger Counter read-out is now displayed next to the gauge, so it no longer overlaps the held item name.
1.1.1
Fixed
- Clouds no longer render in front of the targeting lasers and the orbital beam. Effects are now drawn after clouds and weather, while terrain still occludes them correctly.
Changed
- Sound overhaul: short, deep and heavy sounds replace the high-pitched and long sounds. The charge hum stays low.
- Targeting now lasts 20 seconds: the lasers scan the zone much longer before the beam strikes.
- The Orbital Strike Designator now has 5 uses (consumed in Survival only). The remaining charges are shown in its tooltip.
Added
- Radiation system:
- An invisible fallout zone (~154 blocks) is created around the shaft, with 4 intensity tiers. It fades away after 20 Minecraft days.
- Contaminated water: entities standing in water inside the zone receive 4x the dose.
- Radiation gauge in the HUD, right above the hunger bar.
- All living entities are affected. Regular damage starts at 2/3 of the gauge and reaches its maximum when the gauge is full. Radiation ignores armour and has custom death messages.
- The dose slowly decreases outside the zone.
- Geiger Counter: live read-out of the local radiation level, clicks that speed up with exposure, and a full measurement on right-click. Craftable.
- Ash block: stacks in layers like snow and never melts. Falls in a wide area around the impact.
- Dead Leaves block: brown, non-decaying foliage.
- Blast effects on nature: around the impact, leaves are torn off or turn into dead leaves, and ground plants are burnt. The shockwave fells nearby trees, laying their trunks flat on the ground, pointing away from the impact.
Technical
- The environmental aftermath (ash, dead forest, felled trees) runs after the shaft on a per-tick time budget, so it never freezes the server.
1.1.0
Added
- 5 weapon components: Barrel, Body, Stock, Magazine and Scope.
- Crafting recipes for each component (diamonds, obsidian, redstone blocks, gold, iron, blaze powder, ender pearls, one netherite ingot).
- New assembly recipe: the Orbital Strike Designator is now crafted from its 5 components.
- Screen-space lens flare (bloom haze, anamorphic streak, lens ghosts), hidden when terrain blocks the view.
- Real terrain lighting around the strike site during targeting, the strike and the afterglow.
Changed
- Complete lighting overhaul: HDR shaders with filmic tonemapping, white-hot cores, chromatic falloff and animated energy filaments.
- New volumetric glow along beams and lasers.
- Sharper, more intense targeting lasers.
Removed
- Old designator recipe (nether star, beacon, end crystal).
