One Random Chunks

Walk into a new chunk and it instantly turns into a single random block, terrain shape intact, with structures and spawners left untouched.

Description

Random Chunks

Step into a chunk nobody has touched yet, and the entire chunk turns into one random block.

Stone. Glass. Pink wool. Obsidian. Sculk. Whatever the dice give you.

The shape of the terrain never changes — air stays air. So a mountain becomes a mountain carved out of quartz, a cave stays a cave with walls of amethyst, an overhang still hangs over you. Nothing collapses, nothing suffocates you. Only the material changes.

Keep walking and the land behind you becomes a patchwork quilt of sixteen-block squares, each one a different colour, each one a place you can point at and remember crossing.

Every chunk is transformed once and only once. Once a chunk has had its turn it is remembered forever, so the base you build in it stays exactly the way you left it — even after a restart.

What is left alone. This is not a demolition mod. A world where everything is randomised is a world where nothing is worth exploring, so a lot of it is deliberately protected: anything with a generated structure (villages, temples, mineshafts, mansions, outposts, fortresses, ancient cities — a chunk is protected as soon as any part of a structure overlaps it, so a village never gets sliced in half), any chunk holding a mob spawner, the spawn chunk, and the chunk you log into.

Every block is a fair block. 362 blocks can come up, drawn from the entire registry — including blocks from other mods you have installed. Only full, breakable, self-supporting cubes are kept: sand would collapse into falling entities, torches would carpet the ground with dropped items, and bedrock stays untouched so the void stays where it belongs. The draw is deterministic from the world seed, so share a seed and your friend gets the same quilt.

Built to stay smooth. A full chunk is rewritten in about 16 ms — less than one tick. The finished chunk is sent in a single packet instead of tens of thousands of block updates.

Ghost Chunk (Forge 1.20.1): only your current chunk is rendered, terrain and entities alike. Move chunks and the old one vanishes while the new appears. Purely visual, via two client-side Mixins; no game logic changes.
