Description
What it does
Omens Infested Blocks adds rare “ghast‑infested” versions of common underground blocks. Most of the time you’re just mining normally… until one of the stones squeels at you when you try to mine it and now hes waking his friends and now theyre all yelling and shooting fireballs at you...
This mod is meant to feel vanilla‑adjacent: subtle, rare, and memorable instead of constant annoyance. No new items, no new ways to become op, and nothing unbeatable. Their fireballs dont break blocks by default but you can change that in the config if you want them to be more obnoxious.
Why you’d want it
- Spooky mining moments that actually feel scary because they’re uncommon
- Surprise combat encounters in caves
- A chance to get ghast loot (including ghast tears) in the Overworld before you ever go to the Nether
- A new reason to care about Silk Touch and how you break blocks
How it works
- Infested blocks can generate as Stone, Deepslate, Andesite, Diorite, Granite, Calcite, or Gravel.
- Break one without Silk Touch and it spawns a tiny Stone Ghast themed to that block type.
- Use Silk Touch to harvest the block safely with no ghast.
- Like silverfish, the ghast can “wake up” nearby infested blocks so a single mistake can turn into a moment.
Config and tuning
Config file location:
config/omens_infested_blocks-common.toml
Rarity:
- WorldGeneration.worldgenMultiplier controls how often infested blocks generate.
Lower it to make them rarer. Raise it to make caves more dangerous.
Other options:
- WorldGeneration.veinSizeMax changes how big a patch can be.
- WorldGeneration.Advanced.* lets you fine‑tune each block type if you want.
- Entities.modGhastFireballGriefing is off by default. Turn it on only if you want their fireballs to damage blocks.
Notes
Infested blocks are designed to blend in with their host block, so you usually won’t spot them until it’s too late.
