Description
Off By One is a story horror mod told in seven places. There are no new swords or ores. There is a door that was not there a moment ago, a clerk who counted twenty-three children when there were twenty-four, and something that ticks.
How it begins
Play normally. After a few minutes a door appears in a hillside behind you. If you do not look at it, it comes closer. Open it and you enter a separate dimension, private to you, even on a server.
What you do
- Read what the village left behind: ledgers, notes, a ribbon, a lantern.
- Solve each place: a hall of chairs, a market in a dark wood, an archive where not every book tells the truth, a two-storey infirmary, a well.
- Then run. The last chapter is a chase through nine rooms that do not obey the same rules: a house that rises round the stairs, pads that vanish behind you, a lift while it comes closer, a wall of doors where only one is counting, a mirror that is not a mirror.
Features
- Seven hand-built chapters, each with its own atmosphere and sounds.
- The Tally: a creature with its own 3D model. It moves only when you do not look at it. In the end it becomes something much bigger.
- A real jumpscare when it catches you.
- A chase song, moments of total silence, over a dozen original soundscapes.
- No commands needed to start, tutorial hints, and /offbyone resume to continue.
- Configurable: sound intensity, reduced effects, door timing, Tally on/off.

Requirements
Minecraft 1.20.1, Fabric Loader, Fabric API, Java 17. Required on both client and server.
Warnings
Horror. A loud scream when you are caught, flashes of white and red, darkness, and a child’s death in the story. Not for young children or anyone sensitive to flashing lights. In config/offbyone.json you can lower soundIntensity and turn on reduceEffects.
