What's new

Oblivion: Space Exploration — Beta 4

Version 1.0.0-beta.4 · Minecraft 1.20.1 · Forge 47.4.10 · Java 17

Build persistent ships, discover Resonance, and bring living crews aboard moving hulls. Beta 4 focuses on ship life, controls, exploration rewards, and reliability.

Major new features

  • Persistent commissioned ships. Detect hull, review preflight, then confirm commissioning. Hulls remain ship grids when pilots leave or disconnect. Saving, ownership, inventories, and interrupted conversions receive recovery safeguards.
  • Manual, Cruise, and Standby flight. Pilot Remote cycles modes; sneak-use opens Flight Controls. Cruise preserves existing powered motion. Standby preserves momentum: brake before boarding or landing.
  • Resonance discovery and progression. Explore for Push, Pull, Leap, Barrier, Grasp, and Singularity. Hold G for selection wheel, press Z to cast, and J for attunement. Rebind keys in Controls.
  • Resonance Blade. Find rare exploration loot, dye blades in 16 vanilla colors, and hold Use for frontal defense and supported arrow/blaster deflection. No crafting recipe; heavy ship lasers bypass guard.
  • Living ship compartments. Sealed cabins retain finite oxygen reserves. Powered life support, hull breaches, and supported onboard plants affect cabin survival.

Gameplay improvements

  • Place, break, and use supported blocks aboard rotated, moving ships, with client prediction and server validation. Native item use covers armor, bows, shields, food, and supported thrown items.
  • Ground mobs use ship-local navigation; villagers can claim supported workstations. Crew security follows shared navigation and melee paths.
  • Arrows and tridents can remain attached to moving hull surfaces. Supported projectiles inherit ship motion and collide with ship blocks.
  • Inspect wired power networks through power diagnostics. Generator, battery, and existing cable topology remain physical systems; separate circuits stay separate.
  • Updated Repair Drone model, animations, and glow layer. Refreshed Generator and Kashyyyk resource visuals.
  • Field Manual, recipe-book unlocks, contextual hints, and /oblivion guide help first survival flights. Station shops stock Computer, Generator, and Sea Lantern parts.
  • Cooldown panel, server-confirmed readiness feedback, and short notifications support Resonance selection and casting.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed input paths that lost short ship clicks or used stale aim/selected slots. Placement direction follows ship frame, including gates.
  • Fixed stale movement reconciliation after teleport, which displaced players during simultaneous ship building.
  • Restored supported ship interaction sounds, block events, particles, redstone/piston behavior, and machine context. Compatibility limits remain below.
  • Isolated transferred ship inventories/system snapshots; preserved flight energy debt and shield energy/regeneration state.
  • Added durable commissioning checkpoints and cross-dimension transfer recovery journals. Synthetic interruption checks do not certify hardware power-loss recovery.
  • Fixed missing decor references and Resonance ingredient atlas registration.
  • Shortened Field Manual controls page to fit vanilla book height; both client layout checks pass.

Performance improvements

  • Selective commissioning checkpoints avoid saving unrelated dirty dimensions.
  • Giant jellyfish collision checks skip proven empty sections while preserving obstacle handling.
  • Bounded ship-template caching and tighter ship chunk tickets reduce repeated work and unrelated chunk requests.
  • Uniform vanilla palette saves skip unnecessary expansion. Cold loading and forced saves can still stall; no universal FPS/TPS gain promised.

Known issues and beta limits

  • Player physical docking, linked manual/automatic cargo transfer, and docked electricity are unavailable. NPC station traffic and undock guards do not provide those systems.
  • Ship-relative player bed respawn and sculk/vibration behavior remain limited. Supported piston/redstone checks do not establish compatibility with every contraption or modded machine.
  • Surface Drill remains stationary; ship-local swimming, custom movement controllers, every projectile/item override, and full villager schedules lack exhaustive coverage.
  • Large fleets, extreme rotation, long survival sessions, human camera/movement comfort, and representative old survival-world upgrades need broader acceptance testing.
  • Use identical Oblivion builds on clients/server. Ship networking changed since Beta 3; mixed versions cannot connect.
  • Some cold QuickPlay joins timed out during local automated tests. Normal title-screen connections succeeded; root cause remains unresolved and full reconnect acceptance remains incomplete.
  • Back up valuable worlds before updating. Automated/native-input checks do not represent completed human gameplay testing.

Installation requirements

  1. Install Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.4.10, and Java 17.
  2. Install GeckoLib Forge for Minecraft 1.20.1, version 4.7.1.3, on clients and dedicated server. Metadata permits compatible GeckoLib versions >=4.7.1.3 and <5; pinned version receives release verification.
  3. Put oblivion-1.0.0-beta.4.jar and GeckoLib JAR in each mods folder. Remove older Oblivion JAR from that folder before launching.
  4. Keep matching versions across multiplayer clients/server. Preserve world backups.

Report bugs through Oblivion Discord or CurseForge comments, including versions, reproduction steps, and relevant logs.
