Nuo — Masks, Patterns, and Transformation

Nuo (傩) is a folklore fantasy mod inspired by Chinese Nuo mask culture. Craft wooden masks, collect mask patterns, and combine abilities to support your own style of survival.

Craft Your Mask

Begin with a blank mask and carve patterns into it. Each mask has a primary pattern that determines its transformed appearance and main ability. Auxiliary patterns provide additional effects, allowing different combinations on the same mask.

Reinforce your mask to unlock more pattern slots. Carry up to three masks on a shoulder sling and switch between them when you are not transformed.

Five Distinct Patterns

• Gatekeeper: Repel nearby creatures with a forceful shout.

• Lantern Bearer: Surround yourself with protective lantern light.

• Wayfarer: Walk across water.

• Gong Caller: Empower your next attack and release a spreading shockwave.

• Harvest Keeper: Encourage crop growth in a 3×3 area.

Each pattern has its own auxiliary effect, transformation appearance, and arrival and departure sequence.

Meet the Spirits

Burn incense at a small incense altar to invite visiting spirits. Approach them to trade for materials and mask-related supplies.

For longer journeys, register a destination with the Return Bell and ring it to return when needed.
