Changelog

0.1.0 (alpha) - 2026-10

The first public build: everything is in, but it has not been played through yet. Expect rough edges; worlds made with an alpha may not carry over to later versions.

Requires Nookworks 1.0.0 or later (below 1.1), NeoForge 26.3.

  • The fallen If. Nookworks' If becomes a world whose civilisation of players fell to the dead: the town (centre, old town, residential, outskirts, waste), the players' settlements, overgrown farmland with fields of every kind, the wilds with crags, woods, thickets, caves and small lakes; zombie villages and ruined portals now and then. Under the ground, old mine galleries and, under the town, its sewers - rooms people lived in, bunkers, rats' nests, barricades and traps. Over fifty buildings (a hospital and a railway station among them), each lot's in its own timber, colours and state of ruin, some boarded up; survivors' remains here and there. Each region its own air: fog, silence, distant sounds. The If Mirror shows it.
  • Mutated zombies. Fast, sun-proof, each a little different (pace, flanking, senses, how they break through); they see only what is in sight and hear the rest - sneak, or walk on carpet, and walls keep you unheard; they break wood, glass and earth, not stone or iron; they cannot climb ladders. They drop nothing. Mutated zombie villagers, zombie cows, horses and wolves, infected bats and rats; zoglins in the farmland.
  • The infection. You are infected the moment you step in. Suppressants, found in the ruins (and brewed once you have what the Vandal leaves), hold it back; splash one on a mutated zombie and it is an ordinary zombie again. A bitten friend gets up as one of them.
  • The Vandal. A research institute stands somewhere; the scraps of a map lead to it, and at its bottom waits the boss.
  • Shelter. Under a roof and lit, none come; nor within reach of Nookworks' Dark Matter. Beds work; death takes you home.
  • No farming the dead. They take no boats or minecarts; a name tag, a lead or a pit does not keep them; what dies in a trap leaves nothing.
  • Diaries left in the ruins, twelve of them.
  • An advancement tab; English, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) and Korean.
  • Data packs can add buildings to the town (data/<namespace>/nookofthedead/buildings/*.json).
