Night's Spellbound Glyphs

iron's spell scrolls bridged into Ars Nouveau glyphs for MAXIMUM POWAH!

Spellbound Glyphs

Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks has the spells. Ars Nouveau has the spellcrafting. This mod makes them stop being roommates and move in together.

Every Iron's spell (99 of them work, more on the other 10 below) is now an Ars glyph. Drop one in any spell, on any form. Want Fang Strike from a Linger field? Please do, I want to see it.

I drew every glyph by hand, one 16x16 square at a time. There are 109 of them. Please look at them.

What's different about these glyphs

  • Amplify is your spell level. One Amplify is level 2, two is level 3, and so on. Projectile > Blood Slash > Amplify > Amplify is Blood Slash at level 3. A full 10-slot spell tops out at level 9. Amplify is the only augment these glyphs take.
  • No target needed. If the form hits a creature, Iron's targets it. If it lands on a block, or a Linger field has nobody in it, the spell goes off at that spot. Acupuncture, which normally wants something to poke, just spawns its needles there.
  • Paid for in Ars mana. Every glyph costs a flat 50. Iron's mana isn't involved.

Why this isn't broken

Yes, you can make a very high-level spell. You'll pay for it in slots, though. A Projectile that flies far and fast needs a pile of Accelerate glyphs, and every Accelerate in your spell is one Amplify you can't have. So you pick two out of range, speed and power. Want all three? Get a bigger book and then be insufferable about it.

Getting the glyphs

Step 1: a Blank Glyph (Imbuement Chamber)

  • Put a Blank Parchment in the chamber.
  • Put a Feather and a Source Gem on pedestals around it (within the 1-block cube, the chamber will tell you if you got that wrong).

Step 2: the glyph itself (Scribe's Table)

  • 1x Blank Glyph
  • 1x Iron's scroll of the spell you want
  • 5x Arcane Essence
  • XP: 30 for Tier 1, 90 for Tier 2, 180 for Tier 3

Any level of scroll works. A level 1 scroll and a level 10 scroll make the exact same glyph, because your power comes from Amplify, not from the scroll. Use your cheapest one.

Tiers

Glyph tier copies Iron's rarity:

Iron's rarity Glyph tier
Common 1
Uncommon, Rare 2
Epic, Legendary 3

You need the matching spell book to use a glyph. Haste is Epic, so no, you can't make it work in a Novice book.

The ones that aren't here

Sustained spells are the ones where you hold down the cast button and the spell keeps going. Ars can't do "hold to keep casting", so those glyphs are disabled. You can see their art in the creative tab, but you can't craft or use them:

Blaze Storm, Cone of Cold, Dragon's Breath, Electrocute, Fire Breath, Poison Breath, Ray of Siphoning, Starfall, Telekinesis.

Gluttony is disabled too, because it turns food into Iron's mana and these glyphs run on Ars mana. It would be a very expensive way to eat.

Requirements

Small print

  • Ars saves each glyph's tier and mana cost in config/spellboundglyphs/. If I change a value in an update, your old value sticks. Delete that folder and restart and you get the new ones.
  • The glyph casts the Iron's spell as you, from wherever the Ars spell lands. If a spell does something odd (a few were written for a caster standing still), tell me which one and what happened.
  • This is an unofficial addon. It isn't made by, or affiliated with, the Ars Nouveau or Iron's Spells people. Please don't go bug them about my bugs.

Modpacks and forks

Put it in your modpack. Fork it. Rebalance every glyph, gut the tiers, make Heal cost 5 mana and see what happens. Go nuts, you don't need to ask me first.

I genuinely want to see the chaos. If you build something unhinged with these glyphs, or ship a pack with them, tell me, because I'll want to look at it.
