What's new

2.1.4 — The Encounter Update

Minecraft 1.21.1 + NeoForge 21.1.234 · Requires Java 21

Makes the hunt feel like a real encounter, gives the Shadow a face, and rewards the kill.

New

  • Encounter boss bar. When the Shadow commits to the hunt (Hunting or Attacking), a dark purple boss bar appears for players within 48 blocks, showing its true, escalated health and darkening the screen. It stays hidden while the Shadow is merely stalking — so the dread of "is it even there?" is preserved, and the bar only appears once it means business. It clears the moment the Shadow hides, loses interest, or dies.
  • Glowing eyes. The Shadow now has faint, cold, emissive eyes that shine even in total darkness — readable and deeply unsettling when it's watching you from the dark. (Hidden while it's invisible.)
  • Void Shard. Slaying the Shadow now drops 1–3 Void Shards — a tangible trophy of the kill. Right-click to consume one and borrow the Shadow's sight: 60 seconds of Night Vision. A faintly glinting item with lore, available in Creative under Ingredients.

Changed

  • Removed the last-player Speed boost. Being the final survivor no longer grants Speed — you face the dark on your own legs.

Fixed / polish

  • Null-safety on the escalating-HP attribute when spawning a Shadow.
  • Boss bar membership is fully cleaned up when the Shadow is removed or discarded.

Output

  • nightmare-2.1.4-neoforge-1.21.1.jar
