Genetics! Breeding! Adorable furry creatures!

Do you like Niche?  Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you combines Niche with Minecraft?  This mod might be for you!

And if you haven't, do you like breeding adorable furry creatures with complex genetics?  This game might still be for you!

 

NicheCraft is a Minecraft mod based off the recently released game Niche!  Niche is a game centered on genetics and adaptation in which you must help a tribe of adorable creatures survive in a hostile environment, by carefully choosing what traits to breed for.  NicheCraft takes this concept and attempts to implement it into Minecraft by adding the adorable creatures that Niche is known for as tameable companions that will accompany you on your travels.  Will you breed your creatures for stunning strength or for striking patterns?  The choice is yours to make.

 

Right now, NicheCraft is still in the earliest stages of development, but I intend to work on it as much as I can in order to improve it.  I am, however, a college student and YouTuber, so my time is sometimes limited.  I don't plan on letting this mod die out any time soon, though!

 

**NOTE**

Since Niche is in such an early stage of development, it is likely that further releases will be incompatible with their predecessors.  I would recommend waiting on using this mod in let's plays or whatever until a more stable version of the creatures is done, as the genetic additions will most likely break existing creatures upon release.

-Gender distinguishment (males have manes and females do not, code to prevent same-sex pairings, randomized gender in offspring) (0.0.2)

-Nests used for breeding (female must have access to an empty nest to breed/give birth) (0.0.2?)

-Genetics system (0.0.2-0.0.3?)

-Different pelt colors (0.0.3?)

-Biome-specific spawns (0.0.2-0.0.3?)

-Pelt patterns

-In-game genetic traits such as BigNose, SpitSnout, Antlers, ClawPaw, NoPaw, etc.

-Genetic traits unique to NicheCraft to make up for traits from the game that may become useless to NicheCraft (like BerryPaw)?

-Genetic traits influence stats like health, attack damage, strength, etc.

-Berries, acorns, healing fruit, other Niche food (used for breeding creatures and possibly crafting genetic traits that can be used for mutation?)

-Other Niche creatures like Carnivores, Bunnies, Dodomingos, Death Birds, Stag Moles, etc.

-NicheCraft specific creatures?

-Advanced creature AI (moods, personalities, etc.)?

-POSSIBLY versions for previous Minecraft updates (1.7.10, 1.8, etc.)

Text walkthrough:

To begin breeding your creatures, you must first find and tame them.  NOTE: In the 0.0.1 version, creatures do not spawn naturally in the world and must be spawned in through Creative.

 

In the 0.0.1 update, Tribelings work exactly the same as wolves- they are tamed with bones and can be fed anything a wolf can to be bred.  This will change soon...
