No, that's not blood. It's just my ruby armor and sword shimmering with enchantments.

It's hard to see the particles in a still photo, but the hoe is fully down in attack mode (cursor on tender young crop, center), and the plant isn't breaking. Unenchanted, the ruby hoe would have torn through the plant and several blocks of dirt

The ore (set in netherrack for comparison) and a block of ruby patterned after the block of emerald (shown in creative mode).

Naturally occurring ore burning among other flaming netherrack. I've already exposed the sides of the burning 'racks to see which is which. Only creative mode spared me from harassment by a ghast behind me (out of frame).
