DOOMSDAY — Natural Disasters
The planet is angry.
DOOMSDAY turns Minecraft's world into something alive and dangerous. Disasters don't just damage you: they tear up terrain, flatten cities, flood valleys, bury forests in ash and leave scars that stay. Every event has scale, behavior, warning signs and consequences. The biggest ones are something your server will talk about for weeks.
16 Natural Disasters
- Earthquakes (M 2.5 – 10+): the ground jumps, bulges and sinks. Buildings collapse, cave ceilings fall, fissures tear across the landscape and major faults lift whole sections of terrain. Strong quakes trigger landslides, avalanches, sinkholes, aftershocks and, if the epicenter is underwater, tsunamis.
- Tsunamis: a real wall of water that travels from the sea, loses energy as it climbs the land, wrecks everything in its path and then recedes.
- Tornadoes (EF0 – EF7): the funnel descends from a supercell, then roams the area for minutes. It rips up grass, dirt, trees and houses and spins the debris in the vortex. It lifts you to the clouds and throws you out. Only going underground keeps you safe.
- Hurricanes (Category 1 – 7): a calm eye, a devastating eyewall, wind gusts that drag and lift you, flying roofs and trees, constant lightning and explosive superbolts. They also bring floods and embedded tornadoes. They weaken over land.
- Floods: water rises step by step from rivers and lakes, pours into houses, carries entities away and leaves mud behind when it drains.
- Volcanic Eruptions (VEI 1 – 8+): a cone grows out of the ground before the eruption. Then come volcanic bombs, lava flows that follow the slope, ash that buries the landscape, pyroclastic flows and caldera collapse. The lava cools into basalt and obsidian.
- Meteors & Meteor Showers: a bright star grows in the sky, then a burning rock streaks across it with a trail visible from hundreds of blocks away. On impact you get a crater, an ejecta rim, a meteoric iron core, a traveling shockwave, fires and an impact winter.
- Sandstorms & Blizzards: walls of dust or snow roll in with the wind. Visibility drops, dunes and snow build up, water freezes and exposed players freeze or get sandblasted.
- Avalanches & Landslides: masses that accelerate down real slopes, erode and grow, and bury everything at the bottom.
- Wildfires: a fire front pushed by the wind, embers that start new fires far ahead, and charred forests. Rain can save you.
- Extreme Thunderstorms, Hailstorms & Sinkholes: lightning that seeks high ground (lightning rods protect you), electrified water, giant hailstones, and ground that suddenly collapses.
7 Tiers of Power
Each tier changes behavior, not just damage. It affects size, duration, speed, radius, destruction, visuals, sound and side effects. A minor quake shakes the ground; a catastrophic one splits the land open.
- I – V: Minor to Catastrophic.
- VI – Apocalyptic: available through the Harbinger or commands.
- VII – THE END OF THE WORLD: extremely rare. Every player on the server is warned, the sky turns red and each disaster gains its own apocalyptic behavior:
- The meteor punches a hole through the crust down to bedrock.
- The hurricane hurls the ocean inland, spawns swarms of tornadoes and fires constant superbolts.
- Earthquakes open volcanoes and sinkholes.
- Tsunamis arrive in three waves.
Chain Reactions
- Undersea earthquakes trigger tsunamis.
- Meteors start wildfires, earthquakes and tsunamis.
- Volcanoes shake the ground.
- Hurricanes spawn tornadoes and floods.
- Blizzards release avalanches.
Unpredictable, emergent catastrophes.
Survive It
- Warning signs: tremors, animals fleeing, darkening skies, distant rumbles, a star growing in the sky.
- Emergency Radio: HUD alerts with type, magnitude, distance, direction, time to impact and survival advice.
- Seismograph: redstone output based on nearby seismic activity, perfect for automated shelters.
- Your choices matter: go underground, reach high ground, wear leather in a blizzard, wear a helmet in hail, build firebreaks, place lightning rods.
Harbinger of the Apocalypse
A very expensive late-game item (nether star, dragon's breath, echo shards, netherite, heart of the sea and meteoric iron). Right-click it to open an interactive map of your surroundings. Click where you want the disaster, pick the disaster type and tier (up to ☠ The End of the World), choose whether it gives warning signs, and UNLEASH.
Immersion
- Particles: custom tornado funnels, ash columns, dust walls, hail, embers and shockwave rings.
- Visual effects: colored fog, camera shake, screen flashes for huge impacts.
- Sound: distant explosions that arrive late with the speed of sound, and looping wind, rumble and fire sounds.
Built for Real Servers
- All block changes run through a per-tick budget, so massive craters dig themselves in seconds without freezing the server.
- Chunks are never force-loaded.
- Flood water is tracked efficiently and drains afterwards.
- Flying debris is capped.
- The network only sends compact snapshots to nearby players; visuals are generated client-side.
- Disasters are saved with the world and survive restarts.
Fully Configurable
- Server side: enable or disable each disaster, and set its weight and max tier. Set frequency, dimensions, destruction scale, block budget, spawn protection, container protection, whether water drains, chain reactions and the End of the World chance.
- Client side: camera shake, particle density, fog, flashes, HUD and ambient sounds.
- Everything is editable from the in-game config screen.
