What's new
Modern Companions v4.39
This is a major cumulative update focused on companion progression, new equipment, magic compatibility, mount travel, loot, and a complete Jobs overhaul.
Companion Progression
- Added the Companion Table and Soul Reforging, allowing owners to reroll primary and secondary companion traits.
- Trait costs, Bond requirements, materials, and XP requirements are visible in the interface.
- Added the Beastmaster’s Wand and Soul Orbs for capturing compatible non-hostile mobs, releasing them, and swapping Beastmaster pets.
- Beastmaster pets now persist correctly through Soul Gems, Companion Mover storage, death, and Resurrection Scrolls.
- Added Steve/Alex model selection through the Bio screen, including proper armor geometry and Epic Fight support.
New Loot, Gear, and Economy
- Added 34 loot-only Legendary items with unique models, Epic rarity, vanilla-compatible behavior, and rare companion loadouts.
- Legendary items are available in the Modern Companions and Combat creative tabs but cannot be crafted.
- Added new medieval and fantasy armor sets with custom models, textures, recipes, and creative-tab entries.
- Added configurable loot-only currencies, Credit Cards, wallet storage, physical currency conversions, and JEI trade displays.
- Added Health Packs that fully restore the health of the user, another player, or a Modern Companions companion. Health Packs have a 30-second cooldown.
Magic and Mod Compatibility
- Added compatibility for Iron’s Spellbooks, Ars Nouveau, Curios, and compatible magical equipment.
- Magic gear can now affect companion Mana, spell power, regeneration, resistances, and casting behavior.
- Added a dedicated spellbook slot for magical companions.
- Legacy Cleric, Fire Mage, Lightning Mage, and Necromancer companions remain available without optional magic mods, using their bundled fallback abilities.
- Improved caster targeting, Mana use, healing priority, spell timing, and melee fallback behavior.
- Magical structures now avoid generating without a compatible resident.
Mounts and Following
- Added Assignment Wand mount linking for owned companions and saddled mounts.
- Companions can travel with the owner’s mount setup while preserving native mount speed, jumping, passenger order, and leash behavior.
- Mount assignments persist through relogging and recover safely after loading.
- Temporary fences and leashes are cleaned up without destroying player-owned replacements.
- Improved follow recovery, walking catch-up, emergency teleport safety, and configurable teleport delay/cooldown settings.
Placement Wand and Equipment Improvements
- Added the Placement Wand for deploying multiple Soul Gems around a targeted block.
- Sneak-use captures nearby owned companions without losing companions when inventory capacity is insufficient.
- Equipped Sophisticated Backpacks are checked before the player inventory for Soul Gem storage and deployment.
- Added long held models for spears, quarterstaffs, and glaives.
- Improved Epic Fight and Mekanism armor rendering.
- Cosmetic armor now remains separate from functional equipment and persists correctly through relogging, capture, redeployment, and resurrection.
- Added better support for Totems of Undying, carried torches, lanterns, and rare Sophisticated Backpack equipment.
Alchemist Improvements
- Added configurable Alchemist recipes with visible ingredient tooltips and JEI support.
- Alchemists brew splash potions automatically without consuming glass bottles.
- Brewing takes 200 ticks, and potions can stack to 64 inside an Alchemist’s inventory.
- Improved ally healing, buffs, enemy debuffs, offensive potion throws, targeting accuracy, and line-of-sight checks.
- Fixed recipe synchronization and potion consumption issues.
Jobs Overhaul
Jobs remain experimental and under construction - use at your own risk!
- Added and expanded the Farmer, Lumberjack, Miner, Fisher, Hunter, and Chef professions.
- Jobs now use the Work control, assigned work radius, required tools, and Assignment Wand delivery chests.
- Job progress survives combat, interruptions, unloading, relogging, Work being disabled, and temporary path failures.
- Workers now preserve active tasks instead of silently discarding them when routes, inventories, or chests are temporarily blocked.
- Farmers harvest, replant, and maintain crops.
- Lumberjacks process multiple trees and correctly replant species-specific single-tree and 2×2 layouts.
- Miners use safer bounded routes for caves, buried ores, bridges, and controlled excavation.
- Fishers use native fishing behavior and loot.
- Hunters support melee and ranged combat while collecting their own drops independently of the Pickup toggle.
- Chefs use native furnace, smoker, and campfire cooking behavior.
- Jobs now display clearer phases, waiting reasons, Hunter kill totals, and Chef meal totals.
Additional UI translations and Simplified Chinese localization have also been added.
