๐Ÿ”„ Mod Switcher

Mod Switcher is a lightweight client-side Fabric mod that lets you manage your Minecraft mods directly from inside the game.

Instead of manually opening your mods folder and renaming/removing .jar files, Mod Switcher gives you a convenient Mod Switcher button in the Minecraft title screen and pause menu.

Browse your loaded mods, queue mods to be disabled or re-enabled, and then restart Minecraft to apply your changes.

โš ๏ธ Fabric cannot safely unload or reload mods while Minecraft is running. Mod Switcher therefore applies changes after a restart, keeping the process safe and predictable.

โœจ Features

๐Ÿ”˜ In-Game Mod Switcher Button

A Mod Switcher button is added to:

  • Minecraft's Title Screen
  • Pause Menu

Open the manager without leaving the game.

๐Ÿ“‹ Browse Your Loaded Mods

The mod detects the mods currently loaded by Fabric and displays them in an easy-to-use list.

For each mod, you can see information such as:

  • Mod name
  • Mod ID
  • Mod version
  • Current state
  • Whether a change is waiting for restart

๐Ÿ“– Paged Mod List

Large modpacks can contain dozens or even hundreds of mods.

Instead of putting everything on one screen, Mod Switcher divides the list into pages so you can navigate through your mods easily.

Use the:

< Previous

and

> Next

buttons to move between pages.

๐Ÿ”ด Disable Mods

Select a mod and choose Disable.

The mod will be queued for disabling rather than being removed immediately.

After Minecraft is restarted, the selected mod will no longer be loaded.

๐ŸŸข Re-enable Mods

Mod Switcher also detects disabled mod JAR files and allows you to re-enable them from inside the game.

Disabled files use the:

.jar.disabled

format.

Select a disabled mod and choose Enable. After restarting Minecraft, the mod can be loaded again.

๐Ÿ”„ Restart to Apply Changes

Because Fabric mods cannot safely be unloaded during an active Minecraft session, Mod Switcher does not attempt to change the running game.

Instead, changes are queued and applied when Minecraft is restarted.

The interface clearly indicates:

"Will be disabled after restart"

or

"Will be enabled after restart"

depending on the selected action.

๐Ÿš€ Automatic Restart

Mod Switcher includes an experimental Restart Game option.

When supported by your launcher, it can:

  1. Close Minecraft
  2. Apply the queued mod changes
  3. Attempt to start Minecraft again

If automatic restarting isn't supported by your launcher, the mod tells you to quit Minecraft and start it again manually.

๐Ÿšช Manual Quit Option

You can also use Quit Game.

This closes Minecraft so the queued changes can be applied. You can then launch Minecraft again yourself.

๐Ÿงน Clear Changes

Changed your mind?

Use Clear Changes to remove your pending mod-switching actions before restarting.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Loaded / Disabled Views

Mod Switcher provides separate views for:

  • Loaded Mods
  • Disabled Mods

This makes it easy to see which mods are currently active and which .jar.disabled files are waiting to be re-enabled.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Library Visibility

Mod Switcher can optionally show built-in and bundled library mods.

Library mods are treated as locked because they may be required by other mods and should not normally be disabled.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Dependency Protection

Mod Switcher checks mod dependencies before allowing certain changes.

If another mod requires a mod you are trying to disable, Mod Switcher can prevent the action and show the reason.

This helps avoid accidentally disabling an important dependency and causing Minecraft to fail during the next launch.

โš™๏ธ How It Works

Mod Switcher works with the normal Fabric mods directory.

When you choose to disable a mod, it doesn't try to unload the mod from Minecraft's memory.

Instead, Mod Switcher queues the change for the next launch.

Conceptually:

Minecraft Running

↓

Select Mod

↓

Disable / Enable

↓

Change Queued

↓

Restart Minecraft

↓

Mod File State Updated

↓

Fabric Loads the New Mod Configuration

This approach is necessary because Fabric mods are loaded during the Minecraft startup process and cannot safely be unloaded while the game is already running.

๐Ÿ“ Disabled Mods

Disabled mods are represented using:

mod-name.jar.disabled

When you enable one of these mods, Mod Switcher prepares it to become a normal .jar again after the restart process.

๐ŸŽฎ Designed For Modpacks

Mod Switcher is especially useful if you regularly switch between different mod configurations.

For example:

Performance Setup

  • Sodium
  • Lithium
  • Other optimization mods

Visual Setup

  • Shader-related mods
  • Visual enhancements
  • UI mods

Building Setup

  • Building utilities
  • Schematics
  • Map/building tools

Instead of manually managing your mods folder every time, you can queue the mods you need directly from Minecraft.

๐Ÿ’ก Why Use Mod Switcher?

Managing a large Fabric modpack can become annoying when you constantly need to:

  • Close Minecraft
  • Open the .minecraft folder
  • Open the mods folder
  • Find a specific JAR
  • Rename or move it
  • Start Minecraft again
  • Repeat the process when changing your setup

Mod Switcher puts much of this workflow directly into Minecraft.

๐Ÿงฉ Requirements

Mod Loader: Fabric

Minecraft: 1.21.11

Java: Java 21 or newer

Fabric Loader: 0.16.0 or newer

Fabric API: Required

Environment: Client-side

๐Ÿ“Œ Important Notes

Restart Required

Changes are not applied immediately.

Minecraft must be closed and started again before queued changes take effect.

Do Not Disable Required Dependencies

Some mods depend on other mods or libraries. Mod Switcher includes dependency protection where possible, but you should still understand what a mod requires before disabling it.

Client-Side Mod

Mod Switcher is designed for managing the mods on your Minecraft client. It does not provide a server-side mod management system.

Automatic Restart Is Experimental

Automatic restarting depends on how Minecraft was launched and whether the launcher/process can be restarted correctly.

If automatic restart is unavailable, simply use Quit Game and launch Minecraft normally again.
