46 creatures. One of the most legendary mods ever made.
DrZhark's Mo'Creatures — rebuilt from the ground up for Minecraft 26.2, on both Fabric and NeoForge.
⚠️ This Is A Giant Port In Active Development ⚠️
Mo'Creatures was built for Minecraft 1.12.2. Bringing it to 26.2 meant rewriting essentially the entire mod — every entity, model, renderer, item, block, the dimension, the spawning system, and the save format — against a Minecraft that has changed almost beyond recognition in the years since.
All 46 creatures, 182 items, 14 blocks and the Wyvern Lair are in and working on both loaders. But a port of this size will have bugs, and some of the deeper 1.12 behaviours are still being rebuilt.
💬 So here's my ask: tell me when something breaks. If a creature misbehaves, a texture looks wrong, something crashes, or it just doesn't feel like the Mo'Creatures you remember — report it and I will fix it fast. Bug reports are the single quickest path to a solid mod, and I genuinely want them. Nothing is too small.
✨ What This Mod Does ✨
Mo'Creatures fills the Minecraft world with life. 46 creatures across land, sea and sky — tame them, breed them, ride them, name them, carry them in your pocket, and fight the ones that fight back. It adds a custom dimension, a full set of weapons and armour, and one of the deepest horse systems ever put in a Minecraft mod. This is that mod, running natively on modern Minecraft.
🌟 Features 🌟
- 🦌 21 land animals — bear, big cat, bird, boar, crocodile, deer, duck, elephant, fox, goat, horse, kitty, komodo, mouse, ostrich, pet scorpion, snake, turkey, turtle, wyvern, bunny
- 🐬 5 aquatic creatures — dolphin, fishy, jellyfish, ray, shark
- 🦋 5 flying insects — bee, butterfly, dragonfly, firefly, fly
- 🐌 5 ground bugs — crab, maggot, snail, cricket, roach
- 👹 10 monsters — golem, ogre, rat, hell rat, scorpion, wild wolf, werewolf, wraith, flame wraith, undead horse
- 🎨 Sub-type variants — 31 of the 46 creatures roll their own skin/colour on spawn, so no two look alike
- 🐴 Horses with coat inheritance — breed two coats and the foal inherits, with a chance to mutate
- 🏹 Tame, breed, ride, name — the core Mo'Creatures loop, intact
- 🔮 Pet Amulet — capture a tamed creature, carry it, release it anywhere with its type and owner preserved
- 🌌 The Wyvern Lair — a custom floating-island dimension, reached with the Staff of Portal
- ⚔️ 182 items — katana, sai, nunchaku, bo, shark sword, silver sword, scorpion weapons, fur/hide/reptile/scorpion armour sets, foods and more
- 🧱 14 blocks — the Wyvern Lair and Ogre Lair building sets
- 🔊 296 authentic sound files / 161 sound events — extracted straight from the original release. It sounds right.
- 🔀 Fabric AND NeoForge — one shared codebase, identical content and behaviour on both
📖 Getting Started
- Install Architectury API (required on both loaders), plus Fabric API if you're on Fabric.
- Drop the jar in your
modsfolder and launch. - Open the creative inventory and find the Mo'Creatures tab (the icon is a Bunny spawn egg).
- Or just go exploring — creatures spawn naturally throughout the Overworld.
The essentials:
- 🥕 Taming: right-click a creature holding its food. Bunny → carrot, horse → wheat, turtle → melon slice, roach → rotten flesh.
- 🐎 Riding: tame a horse, right-click it with a saddle, then right-click with an empty hand. Look to steer, W to go.
- 🏷️ Naming: rename a Medallion in an anvil, then right-click your tamed pet with it.
- 🔮 Amulet: right-click a tamed creature with the Pet Amulet to store it; right-click the air to release it.
- 🌌 Wyvern Lair: right-click with the Staff of Portal to travel there, and again to come home.
🚧 What's Not Rebuilt Yet 🚧
Being straight with you about where the port stands. Everything below is known, on the list, and getting worked on — these aren't bugs, they're the parts I haven't reached yet:
- 🍖 Taming food is wired for bunny, horse, turtle and roach so far. Other species spawn and behave correctly but can't be tamed by feeding yet — use creative in the meantime.
- 🎒 Most mount inventories (chest and armour slots) aren't wired up yet. Riding works; the storage GUI mostly doesn't.
- 🪄 Some special items are cosmetic for now — the Whip, Nether Cannon, Staff of Teleport, Builder's Hammer, scrolls, key and CreaturePedia are registered with their real art but don't have their legacy effects back yet.
- 🐴 Horse genetics is simplified to coat inheritance plus a mutation chance. The full hybrid table — zorse, mule, zonky — and the white fairy aren't back yet.
- 🦓 Wild zebras and donkeys don't spawn naturally yet.
- 🐻 Biome-picked variants (polar bear, snow leopard, snow fox, cave/nether/frost scorpions) can't roll naturally yet — their art ships, but the biome selection isn't reconnected.
- 🌌 The Wyvern Lair terrain currently generates from vanilla floating-island blocks rather than the mod's own lair grass/dirt/stone, so it doesn't have its signature look yet. The sky, biome, trees and wyverns are all correct.
- ✨ A few signature visual effects are missing — the firefly's glowing belly, the jellyfish's translucency and bell-pulse, the wraiths' ghostly transparency.
- ⚙️ The F9 settings screen and
/moc configsave correctly, but a number of the behaviour toggles aren't consulted by gameplay yet. - 🚪 No buildable portal frame — the Wyvern Lair is reached with the Staff of Portal item instead.
- 🛡️ Worn armour uses the vanilla body overlay. The inventory icons are the authentic original art.
Anything not on this list that looks broken almost certainly is broken — please report it!
🐛 Found A Bug? Please Tell Me! 🐛
This is the most useful thing you can do for this mod. A port this big only gets solid because people actually play it and say what went wrong. I read everything and I turn fixes around quickly.
- 🐛 Issues: github
- 💬 Or just leave a comment right here on this page — that works too.
What helps me fix it fastest:
- Your loader (Fabric or NeoForge) and mod version
- What you did, and what happened instead
- The crash report or log if there was one — this is the big one
- A screenshot, if it's something you can see
No report is too small. "This bunny looks weird" is a completely valid bug report.
❓ FAQ ❓
Q: Is this the real Mo'Creatures?
A: This is DrZhark's Mo'Creatures, ported to Minecraft 26.2. Same creatures, same art, same sounds, same mod — running on a version of Minecraft it was never written for. See the credits below; DrZhark made this mod, I only carried it forward.
Q: Fabric or NeoForge?
A: Both, from one codebase. Content and behaviour are identical — pick whichever your pack uses.
Q: Do I need Architectury API?
A: Yes, on both loaders. That's what lets one codebase run on each.
Q: Is it stable enough to actually play?
A: Yes — it boots clean on both loaders with no missing textures or models, and the whole tame/breed/ride/capture loop works. But it's a huge port under active development, so play it expecting rough edges, and please report them.
Q: Will the missing features come back?
A: That's the plan. The list above is my roadmap. What people actually ask for gets prioritised, so speak up.
Q: Can I use this in a modpack?
A: Please ask first — Mo'Creatures is DrZhark's work and its licensing isn't mine to hand out.
Q: Does it work on a server?
A: It's designed to run on both sides. Report anything that doesn't — server-side issues are especially useful to hear about.

Mo'Creatures is not my mod. It's DrZhark's, and it always will be. Everything you love about it — the creatures, the models, the textures, the sounds, the design — came from the original team. All I did was carry it to a new version of Minecraft.
