Mighty Hammers

Adds hammers as a new vanilla-friendly tiered weapon, featuring unique charge attacks and custom enchantments.

Description

Mighty Hammers introduces hammers as a brand-new vanilla-friendly tiered weapon, inspired by the hammers of Minecraft Dungeons while featuring entirely original combat mechanics designed for vanilla Minecraft.

With the introduction of Minecraft's new tiered spear, vanilla combat finally feels like it's expanding beyond swords and axes. Mighty Hammers explores what another fully-fledged weapon could look like, bringing hammers into the game's progression with their own distinct identity.

Unlike many hammer mods, which focus on turning hammers into powerful mining tools with 3×3 excavation and other utility features, this mod takes a different approach by treating them as a dedicated weapon class. They retain pickaxe functionality but focus on combat, using a charge mechanic to unleash powerful strikes and shockwaves.

Hammer Variants

Hammers are available in all six vanilla material tiers. (1.21.1)

Each tier improves durability and combat effectiveness, following Minecraft's natural progression. Higher-tier hammers deal more damage, have greater durability, and feel increasingly powerful.

Crafting

Every hammer uses the same crafting recipe layout, with the crafting material changing for each tier.

The Netherite Hammer is obtained by upgrading a Diamond Hammer at the Smithing Table, just like vanilla netherite equipment.

Combat Mechanics

Every hammer features a unique charge attack.

Charging attack

Holding right-click charges your next strike. The longer you charge, the more powerful the attack becomes. A fully charged hit unleashes a shockwave that damages and knocks back nearby enemies, making hammers especially effective against groups.

Hammers are slower than most weapons and focus on powerful, deliberate strikes rather than fast combos, while still remaining effective for normal attacks.

Shield Usage with Hammer

While charging, you cannot normally raise a shield — however, you can still defend by holding shift + right-click, allowing shields to work alongside hammers.

Exclusive Enchantments

Mighty Hammers introduces two enchantments exclusive to hammers:

Overcharge (Level I–III)

Increases the maximum charge level, allowing stronger charged attacks at the cost of a longer charging time.

Lightweight (Level I–II)

Reduces the time required to fully charge your hammer.

Both enchantments can be obtained through the Enchanting Table but cannot be combined.

Hammers also support a few vanilla utility enchantments:

  • Efficiency
  • Unbreaking
  • Mending

Only utility enchantments are supported to preserve the hammer's identity as a dedicated weapon while still giving pickaxes a reason to exist.

Compatibility:

Works fine with bettercombat
Support for modded tool materials will be added in future updates if there is enough interest.

Planned Features:

  • Support for modded tool materials.
  • More hammer-exclusive enchantments.
  • Additional improvements.
