What's new
v1.1.0 - Companions with character
Your hirelings became people: they carry, wait, eat, refuse, and remember.
- A pack on every hireling - storage rows sized by their strength (tunable in the config, uniform by default) and a gear row for helm, mail, legs, boots, weapon, bow and shield, each empty slot wearing a ghost icon. Armour goes onto their back the moment you set it in, their old piece lands on your cursor, and a bow makes an archer of a swordsman. A fallen fighter drops everything they carried for you.
- Field rations - allow it in the orders and a wounded fighter eats from the pack: they pick the meal that fits the wound, mend by its nourishment the way a fed player mends, and reach for food sooner when enemies are at hand.
- Standing orders, spoken - "stay here", "sit down and rest", "come with me" are dialogue lines, answered in the fighter's own voice. A posted fighter waits where told through relogs and journeys half the map away, stands up for a fight and settles back after; a resting one truly sits. Light their beacon and they glow through walls until you return;
/mekinship crewnames the post with coordinates from anywhere. - An honest parting - a term that ends with your goods still in the pack turns into a settling: the fighter comes and asks whether to lay your things down or keep them, and lays them down themselves if you keep them waiting.
- Names out of the legendarium - ask a fighter what they are called, and you learn a name they will carry for good: borrowed from the books' minor folk, fitting their own people, shown ever after with the game's title in brackets. Some refuse a stranger, and you earn the answer by serving beside them a few days.
- Kinship itself - the days marched together are remembered, and an old comrade quietly asks less than a stranger and greets you as one of their own.
- Refusals with a spine - some fighters are sworn and will not sell their sword, saying so in a soldier's words; among ordinary folk the rare soul volunteers for the road instead, cheap to take and yours to outfit.
- A config and an operator command -
config/mekinship.jsonholds the pack table, the beacon switch, the familiarity ladder and how common every refusal is;/mekinship packedits the table in game, operators only, and every command now speaks both languages. - A tidier conversation - the choice list scrolls when it grows past its window.
v1.0.0 - First release
Talk, trade and hire among the free folk of Middle-earth.
- Talk to the folk in a small, see-through dialogue off to the side of your view. Every people greets you in its own voice, and one already in your pay greets as a soldier to their captain.
- Trade across a clean stall. Worn goods sell for less by their damage, and a sound item you sell goes back on the trader's shelf to buy back later.
- Change coin - copper, silver and gold in either direction, by slider or typed amount, bounded by the trader's own strongbox.
- A living purse rolled from each trader's race and faction by lore, from Erebor's gold to a snaga's coppers, that rises and falls as you deal.
- Per-trader stalls seeded from each NPC and stable on return, with prices worked out from the mod's own alloy recipes and the nutrition of its food. Gear sits one to a shelf, a second the rare exception.
- Hire up to three warriors for a term you set in game-days (shown in real minutes). They follow you, keep a distance you choose, run to catch up, survive relogs, and can be extended or let go. Wage measured from real prowess, not rank.
- English and Русский, and it keeps Roughly Enough Items out of the trade window so its buttons never fight your controls.
