⚙️ Mechanical Mayhem ⚙️
Engineering, Exploration & Questionable Machinery
Mechanical Mayhem is a Minecraft NeoForge 1.21.1 mod currently under active development.
The mod is all about mechanical engineering, exploration, airships, utility equipment and machines that feel like they actually belong in the Minecraft world. Instead of everything being handled by a single magic block, I want equipment to have moving parts, controls, attachments and different systems that work together.
The mod currently includes and is being developed around things such as controllable mounts, searchlights, grenade launchers, harpoons, ropes, pumps, airship equipment, surveying equipment, navigation tools and various utility machines. More equipment and systems are planned as development continues.
The overall visual style uses wood, dark metal, copper and brass to give the equipment an old industrial and expedition feel.
🚧 Work in Progress
Mechanical Mayhem is currently a work in progress and is not a finished product.
There are still lots of features to add, models and textures to finish, mechanics to improve and bugs to find. Some features may also change considerably as I continue developing the mod.
I'm developing this as a project that I want to continue expanding over time, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Please feel free to leave comments, suggestions, ideas and feedback. If you find something that isn't working correctly, please let me know as well. Feedback on the models, textures and gameplay is also very welcome.
📖 How to Use Mechanical Mayhem
⚙️ The Small Mount
The Small Mount is one of the main pieces of equipment in the mod. Rather than having a completely different base for every machine, the Small Mount acts as a platform for compatible attachments.
Place the Small Mount on a suitable surface. It can also be used for equipment that needs to be mounted upside-down.
Once placed, interact with it using a compatible attachment to install that equipment onto the mount.
🔦 Searchlight
The Searchlight is an attachment for the Small Mount.
Hold the Searchlight attachment and interact with an empty Small Mount to install it.
Once installed, the searchlight can be rotated horizontally and tilted vertically. It projects a beam in the direction it is pointing and can be switched on and off remotely.
🎮 Handheld Controller
The Handheld Controller allows you to remotely operate compatible Mechanical Mayhem equipment.
To use it:
- Hold the controller and interact with the machine you want to control to link the controller.
- Use the controller again to enter control mode.
- While controlling the machine, use W/A/S/D to aim it.
- Press Space to use the attachment's primary function.
- Right-click or Shift to leave control mode.
The action performed by Space depends on what is attached to the mount. For example, with a Searchlight it can operate the light, while weapon attachments use it as their primary action.
💥 Quad Grenade Launcher
The Quad Grenade Launcher is another Small Mount attachment.
Install it onto an empty Small Mount in the same way as the Searchlight. It uses the same aiming and controller system, allowing the mount to be rotated and elevated remotely.
The grenade launcher's firing mechanics are still under development, so its behaviour may change as Mechanical Mayhem develops.
🔧 Interchangeable Equipment
The long-term idea is for Mechanical Mayhem equipment to share common systems.
Small, Medium and Large Mounts will support different sizes of machinery. The same controller system can then be used across searchlights, weapons and other remotely controlled equipment.
Other systems are also being developed around ropes, harpoons, pumps, fuel handling, pneumatics, airship equipment, navigation, surveying and expedition equipment.
💬 Feedback & Contributions
Mechanical Mayhem is being actively developed, and there's still plenty to do.
If you've tried the mod, I'd love to hear what you think, what you'd change, what isn't working and what you'd like to see added.
Ideas for new machines are also welcome — particularly anything involving mechanical engineering, airships, exploration, surveying, archaeology or wonderfully unnecessary contraptions.
Thanks for checking out Mechanical Mayhem and helping me develop it! ⚙️🔧
