MCA: Mob Compat

A compatibility layer that lets MCA Reborn treat modded mobs as the animals, mounts and livestock they are, and turns Guard Villagers guards into true MCA villagers with names, hearts, family trees and MCA's own interaction screen.

What's new

0.2.1

Available for Forge 1.20.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1, with matching features, settings, commands and datapack tags. Forge updates from 0.2.0, while NeoForge moves from 2.0 to 0.2.1 so both use the same version number.

Guards and MCA

  • Guard Villagers guards now use MCA's interaction menu. Right-click to chat, give gifts, hire, marry, adopt, have children or set a home. Crouch and right-click to open their inventory.
  • Guards keep their appearance and combat behavior while gaining MCA personalities, memories, relationships, families and village ties. Renaming them through MCA or a name tag updates both. Their profession stays Guard, and MCA's mount and pick-up options are unavailable.
  • Follow, Stay, Move and addon escort orders now work with guards. Following is remembered after restarts. Guard Villagers still requires Hero of the Village by default through its followHero setting.
  • Guards work with MCA: Quests, Crime, Reputation and Conversations. Attacks and deaths are recognized correctly, including situations where a totem or another mod prevents death. Guard portraits also appear in Quests and Conversations.
  • Recruit MCA villagers by crouching and right-clicking with a weapon. One item moves into their hand without losing their name, family, genetics, personality or existing inventory. Children, existing guards and villagers already holding something cannot be recruited this way. A message explains why. Recruitment is enabled by default.

Creepers and animals

  • Villagers now react to creepers. Civilians flee when targeted or when a creeper starts its fuse. MCA guards and archers fight creepers, but also flee when one nearby is about to explode. Charged creepers trigger warnings from twice as far away. Golems Kill Creepers remains compatible.
  • Villagers no longer mount SWEM horses by default because they cannot steer them. Setting npcRidingPolicy = "ALLOW_INERT" under [mounts] allows them to sit on these horses again, but does not give them control.
  • Added Icy's Better Horses support. Hunting protection recognizes horse ownership, and villagers cannot ride player-owned or hitched horses.
  • Added Alex's Mobs support. Elephants, grizzly bears, komodo dragons and tusklins are recognized as mounts. Its six mounts that require player steering refuse villager riders.
  • Improved hunting protection. Owned, tamed animals are recognized as pets across mods, with horses handled separately. New settings cover owned, named and leashed animals, protected animal categories and when villagers stop hunting a protected target.
  • Livestock remains huntable by default. Add livestock to protectedRoles if you want it protected too.
  • Added MCA 7.7 support while keeping support for MCA 7.6.

Fixes and improvements

  • Fixed recruited villagers becoming invisible to the recruiting player. Multiplayer testing confirmed they remain visible to everyone.
  • With preventGuardFriendlyFire enabled, guards cannot hurt MCA villagers with arrows or melee attacks, regardless of Guard Villagers' own setting.
  • Pending hearts changes apply before opening a guard's MCA menu. Hearts are saved after hits and confirmed deaths, and delayed changes are only applied once.
  • Improved guard reliability during unloading and portal travel, with safeguards against duplicate linked villagers, incorrect portraits and problems involving invisible villagers.
  • Guard interactions now use your normal entity reach plus one block instead of Forge's fixed eight-block range.
  • Repeated classification errors are logged once. Classification and hunting settings now refresh whenever configs load, unload or reload.

Updating

  • Install the same version on the server and every client.
  • Replace mcamobcompat-0.2.0.jar with mcamobcompat-forge-0.2.1+1.20.1.jar.
  • Existing guard data updates automatically. Duplicate hearts from the earlier 0.3.0 pre-release builds are also corrected automatically. Data saved by newer mod versions is never overwritten.
  • New settings use their defaults. guardInteractionScreen is now guardMcaInteraction; check it after updating because the renamed setting resets to its default.
  • The old custom guard menu, separate guard hearts settings and gift preference tags have been removed. Guards now use MCA's own menu and relationship system.
