## \[0.4.0\] — September 1, 2026 A major overhaul to **MCA: Crime**, adding proper arrests, improved villager reactions, a redesigned UI, and many fixes to crime and jail systems. ### Added * **Full arrest system:** Surrendering now results in a real arrest, including handcuffs, an escort to jail, and a calculated sentence. * **Physical jail cells:** If no jail is configured, the mod can temporarily build a small holding cell and remove it when the sentence ends. * **New Crime HUD:** View your actions, Heat/Wanted status, and jail time at a glance. * **Improved crime menu:** Actions are grouped, clearly marked as legal or illegal, show their duration and requirements, and explain why unavailable actions cannot be used. * **Guard challenges:** Guards now give you meaningful choices to surrender, pay your fine, view your charges, or resist. * **Better villager reactions:** Villagers can flee, seek help, report crimes, hide, resist, and recover based on their personality and circumstances. * **Smarter fleeing:** Villagers now try to escape toward guards, homes, allies, or safe areas instead of simply running straight away. * **Villager dialogue:** Crime-related conversations now vary based on personality, relationships, previous encounters, and other circumstances. * **Crime reports and witnesses:** Crimes now track who witnessed them and whether they can report what happened. * **Rescue system:** Other villagers and players can now rescue kidnapped villagers. * **Crime dossier:** View your active cases, jurisdictions, statuses, and witnesses in-game. * **Captive information panel:** Captured players can see who is holding them, their remaining time, and escape progress. * **New settings and keybinds:** Configure the HUD and other client-side options in-game. * **Vanilla-style UI:** Crime screens now use Minecraft-inspired textures, colors, buttons, scrolling lists, tooltips, and accessibility support. * **New sounds and restraint textures:** Arrests, restraints, crimes, and other important actions now have clearer visual and audio feedback. * **Optional village guards:** Villages can automatically receive guards based on their population. ### Fixed * Guard confrontation menus repeatedly reopening, including during an arrest. * Jail timers getting stuck instead of counting down. * Surrender not properly reducing jail sentences. * Surrender and refusing a guard having little or no effect. * Guards failing to properly attack or pursue resisting players. * Guards challenging players without any actual charges. * Arrests failing when guards died, unloaded, or could not find a path. * Players being incorrectly marked as fleeing after being teleported. * Jail cells not being properly tracked or cleaned up. * Assigned jails being used from excessive distances. * Completing a sentence leaving the original charges active. * Escaping jail not being recorded correctly. * Kidnapped villagers remaining captive indefinitely. * Crime progress flooding the action bar with messages. * Client information persisting after disconnecting or joining another world. * Missing translations causing raw translation keys to appear. * MCA: Reputation compatibility not working correctly. * Numerous settings that existed but were not actually functioning. ### Changed * Crime actions and commands now use the same underlying system, preventing menus and commands from behaving differently. * Arrests now use a single, persistent lifecycle that survives death, reconnecting, and restarts. * Jail sentences now properly resolve the cases they were issued for. * Player-versus-player crimes now have their own crime types. * Network and world-data formats have been updated. * Restraint animations now use a client-side mixin to properly position the player's arms behind their back.
