MCA: Conversations 1.8.0 — September 30th, 2026
This update makes relationships develop more naturally and brings Townstead’s daily village life into conversations.
- Strangers act like strangers: Villagers you’ve never met no longer use your name or pretend you’re already friends. Greetings and goodbyes now match your relationship and the villager’s personality.
- Friendship develops over time: Hearts still matter, but closer friendships also require familiarity, trust and meaningful contact across multiple days. Conversations and accepted gifts count toward contact days; simply opening the menu does not.
- Family relationships are recognized: Parents, children, siblings and spouses receive appropriate dialogue. Your children address you as their parent, and unresolved arguments affect how villagers speak to you—even with a high heart total.
- More distinct relationships: Acquaintances, friends, confidants and villagers you’ve upset each have their own greetings. Confidants can greet you privately, and respected strangers can acknowledge your village reputation.
- Quieter, more natural greetings: Passing greetings are spaced out, and villagers continue their day unless you answer. Opening chat draws attention from at most three nearby villagers.
- Finished topics stop cluttering the menu: Fully discussed topics are hidden for that player and villager by default. Repeatable subjects, including news, weather and check-ins, remain available.
- MCA: Crime support: Villagers remember crimes they witnessed, and guards deliver warnings and respond to reports and apologies in their own personality. Custom dialogue can also respond to your criminal status.
With Townstead installed, villagers have more to discuss and respond more naturally to their circumstances:
- Eight new “Life here” topics: Talk about their wellbeing, daily routine, trade, age, roots, home, village spirit and calendar. These topics work through both dialogue menus and typed chat.
- Needs and schedules shape conversations: Busy or exhausted villagers may postpone longer discussions while still allowing small talk. Sleeping villagers and those dealing with emergencies are less likely to initiate conversations.
- Helpful gifts are remembered: Villagers recognize gifts that actually relieve hunger, thirst or fatigue, without awarding extra hearts for the same gift.
- More local gossip: Hear about villagers recovering from hardship, learning skills, advancing in their trade, celebrating birthdays, and changes to buildings or village spirit.
- Consistent seasons and festivals: Conversations can follow Townstead’s calendar, including its holidays, instead of using a conflicting calendar.
- Expressive reactions: Villagers can wave, clap, facepalm and show other reactions when Emotecraft is installed. Townstead’s dialogue screen also gains effects such as whispers and sleepy speech.
Several conversation and compatibility issues are fixed:
- Villagers stop waiting and facing you when you leave conversation range, teleport away or change dimensions.
- Conversations close properly when a villager falls asleep or chat mode is disabled.
- MCA: Quests now displays readable conversation objectives and rewards. Repeated clicks on a topic still on cooldown no longer count as additional conversations.
- Fixed local chat inconsistencies during reloads and stale conversation information when switching servers.
- Reduced unnecessary startup warnings and added clearer errors for broken dialogue packs.
- Updated English and Brazilian Portuguese dialogue and messages.
Existing friendships in established worlds are preserved by default when upgrading.
Available for Forge 1.20.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1, with matching social and Townstead features. Update both the server and clients to 1.8.0 for the new dialogue. Townstead and MCA: Crime remain optional; supported Townstead versions are 0.7.5–0.8.x.
