Description
Champions – PvP Hearts, Linked Lives & Survival Events
Champions is a multiplayer survival mod for Minecraft 1.21.11 on Fabric. It adds a limited-life system, linked partners, combat tracking, special equipment, loot events, and optional duels. Players must balance the rewards of fighting against the risk of losing their remaining lives.
Three Champions Hearts
Every player starts with three Champions Hearts, displayed as cyan hearts above the XP bar. These represent remaining lives and are separate from vanilla health.
Dying during PvP combat or disconnecting while combat-tagged costs one Champions Heart. Lost hearts turn gray. Players can never have more than three normal Champions Hearts.
Losing the final heart results in a permanent server ban unless the player has a valid Linked Heart reserve.
Linked Hearts
Administrators can assign partners manually or randomly pair eligible players who have previously joined the server, including offline players.
When a linked player loses all three normal hearts, their partner’s head replaces the heart display and represents one final reserve life. Losing that reserve bans the player and breaks the connection. Their partner keeps any remaining normal Champions Hearts, but is also banned if already relying on the shared reserve.
Random pairings are not announced in chat. The partner remains hidden in the status command until the reserve is revealed through the HUD.
Combat Tracking
Dealing PvP damage starts a 30-second combat timer for both players. Further hits refresh the timer. Colored chat messages announce entry into combat without repeating on every hit.
Each player can use up to 30 Ender Pearls per combat encounter. A death or disconnect ends the connected encounter for its participants.
This makes retreating a tactical choice while preventing disconnecting from becoming a free escape.
Special Items
- Heart Stealer: A special sword that restores one missing Champions Heart after a successful, unprotected PvP kill. It breaks after that successful use, even if the attacker already has three hearts.
- Soul Amulet: Equipment placed in a dedicated slot accessible through the Amulett button in the survival inventory. It prevents one Champions Heart loss on combat death and is consumed instead. It does not protect against combat logout.
Protected deaths do not grant a stolen heart. Combat deaths also display a silent heart-breaking animation, or an amulet-breaking animation when the amulet provides protection.
Loot and Zombie Events
The Heart Stealer event attempts to spawn five loot chests every five minutes near players in loaded Overworld areas. Chests have randomized rarity and modest supplies such as bread, iron, arrows, cooked beef, and gold. Exactly one chest contains a Heart Stealer.
The Soul Amulet event spawns waves of armored zombies. Event zombies always wear helmets and use leather, chainmail, iron, or gold armor. Some carry diamond swords, but their equipment does not drop.
Player-killed zombies have a small chance to drop a Soul Amulet. Once an amulet drops, automatic event waves stop—even across server restarts—until an administrator explicitly starts another event. Naturally spawning zombies remain unaffected.
These events create opportunities to obtain useful equipment without introducing unlimited extra lives.
Optional Duels
Use /duel <player> to challenge another player. They can respond with /duel accept or /duel deny.
An accepted duel lasts until either participant dies or one hour passes. During the duel, neither participant loses Champions Hearts on death, and the special heart-related items are not consumed. Normal inventory death drops still apply.
Only the challenger spends their one-time duel initiation, and only after acceptance. Accepting another player’s challenge does not consume that allowance. Duellists cannot exchange PvP damage with outside players while their duel is active.
Administration and Persistent Data
Player records, hearts, linked partners, bans, equipped amulets, and accepted duel data are stored per world.
Useful commands include:
/champions status/champions link <player1> <player2>/champions link random/champions restore <player> <amount>/champions event soul/champions event heartstealer/champions event stop
The stop command pauses both automatic events without deleting existing chests or zombies. Administrative commands require permission level 3.
