Description
MateSignal Unofficial
This is an unofficial port of MateSignal by Shiny. The original supports Minecraft 1.21.10 only; this port adds 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 1.12.2. Everything the mod does — the event set, the wire protocol, the interaction with MateEngine — comes from the original. Only the platform adaptation is mine, and if you play 1.21.10 you should use their version instead.
MateSignal is a client-side Minecraft mod that bridges the game and MateEngine, a 3D desktop avatar application. It watches for in-game events and reports them to MateEngine over a local UDP socket, which displays the matching message as a speech bubble on your desktop avatar.
The mod is client-side only. Installing it on a server does nothing, and the server does not need it.
Not affiliated with or endorsed by the MateEngine project or the original author. Credit for the concept, the design and the MateEngine integration belongs entirely to them.
Supported versions
| Minecraft | Loader | Java | File |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.20.1 | Forge 47.x | 17 | matesignal-forge-1.20.1-1.1.0.jar |
| 1.21.1 | NeoForge 21.1.x | 21 | matesignal-neoforge-1.21.1-1.1.0.jar |
| 1.12.2 | Forge 14.23.5.2860 | 8 | matesignal-forge-1.12.2-1.1.0.jar |
Download the file whose name matches your Minecraft version. The three builds emit an identical set of events and can address the same MateEngine instance.
What it does
These events produce an avatar message:
- Daybreak and nightfall
- A hostile mob nearby
- Low health or hunger
- Drowning
- Death
- Rain starting
- Going to sleep
- Crafting something
- Eating
- Killing a mob
- Discovering a biome for the first time
13 events in total.
Entity and biome names follow the language selected in Minecraft, because they are resolved through the game's own language manager.
Installation
- Install the loader matching your Minecraft version (Forge or NeoForge)
- Put the matching jar in your
.minecraft/modsfolder - Start MateEngine
- Launch the game
Configuration
On 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 the settings are available in game under Mods → MateSignal → Config, or by editing config/matesignal-client.toml. On 1.12.2 the file is config/matesignal.cfg.
Available options:
- Mob detection radius
- The mob whitelist used by the proximity event
- A separate toggle for each event listed above
The mod id is matesignal, so the configuration file is compatible with the original mod and your settings survive switching between them.
Commands
| Command | Description |
|---|---|
/matesignal test all |
Emits all 13 events in sequence, one per second |
/matesignal test <event> |
Emits one event; prefix matching works |
/matesignal list |
Lists every event name |
/matesignal reload |
Reloads the biome name override table (1.12.2 only) |
To check whether the mod and MateEngine are talking to each other, run /matesignal test all. A run of bubbles means the link works.
If nothing happens
- Make sure MateEngine is running. The mod only sends data to localhost; with nothing listening, nothing will appear.
- Make sure UDP port 32145 is not blocked. The mod sends UDP datagrams to
127.0.0.1:32145. - Trigger an event manually with
/matesignal test all. Bubbles mean the link works and the fault is in event detection; no bubbles mean the link itself is broken. - Check
logs/latest.log. A failed mod load leaves an error there.
Usage warning
Do not use this mod on public or competitive servers. The avatar reports information such as nearby hostile mobs, which counts as cheating under the rules of some servers. Singleplayer or a private server with friends only.
Differences from the original
The original sends the drowning message under the event name drowning_half, which MateEngine does not recognise, so that message never appeared. This port corrects it, along with a false nightfall trigger on time jumps, entity and biome names that were sent as untranslated ids, and biome names that could not be translated on 1.12.2.
